Samsung has confirmed that the next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on July 26. This event will bring out some of the high-anticipated new products. As we approach the event, more and more information on the upcoming devices has started to come out. This time, we got live images of Galaxy Z Flip 5.

To be exact, the pictures are from the dummy unit of Galaxy Z Flip 5. Dummy units, if you do not know, look exactly like the final release of the phone, but they don’t work like one. That is, they do not have the internal hardware. However, in terms of design, they closely resemble the official device.

Closer Look at the Dummy Unit of Galaxy Z Flip 5

The images of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 dummy unit showcase the foldable phone in its white color. Officially, Samsung will call this color option “Phantom White,” and truth be told, it looks very eye-catching. Furthermore, the dummy unit confirms the presence of a large-sized external display.

And in case you didn’t know, the large-sized external display is the major highlight of the upcoming foldable phone. This display will make the Galaxy Z Flip 5 take over all the attention that Motorola is getting for its new Razr phone. However, in my opinion, Motorola’s execution of the external display surpasses Samsung’s.

Wondering how? Well, as you can see, the external display of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a folder-like shape. It does not wrap around the rear cameras, which Motorola did. Thanks to that, Motorola was able to offer a bit more screen real estate, allowing the display to run apps in an immersive mode.

Nevertheless, the external display on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is larger than its predecessor, the Flip 4. In comparison, the Flip 4 came out with a 1.9-inch display. The external display you see in the dummy unit of the Z Flip 5 is 3.4 inches in size. Also, as we have previously reported, Samsung has worked with Google to optimize apps for this screen.

For that reason, you can expect to get a better overall experience when running different apps on the Z Flip 5. And it will come with better app support too.

Analysis: How Will the New Flip Phone Compare to the Predecessor

As per previous reports, most of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 specs are the same as the Z Flip 4. That includes the same 6.7-inch internal AMOLED display, two 12MP camera sensors on the back, and a 10MP selfie shooter in the punch-hole notch of the inner display. And that’s nothing bad, as these specs are great for a flagship foldable phone.

The main internal hardware change that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will see is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It’s pretty much confirmed, as the latest Galaxy S series phones have come out with that specific chipset. This SoC will allow the upcoming flip phone to offer better performance while running resource-intensive apps and games.

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will come with the latest Android 13. Samsung will put One UI 5.1 on top, which is Samsung’s Android skin with tons of customization options. And for the flip phone, there will be some special features on this Android skin that will let you get the most out of the internal foldable display and external screen.

Other than that, the battery and charging specifications are the same as the Z Flip 4. That means the Z Flip 5 will likely come with a 3700mAh battery with 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging rates.

Should You Get the Galaxy Z Flip 5?

So, the current competitor to the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. It launched on June 05 and started the next phase of flip phones by integrating a large-sized cover display. Now, while the display of the Razr 40 Ultra is better than the upcoming Z Flip 5, it does not have the latest flagship processor.

That is, you will not find the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 inside the Razr 40 Ultra. But, as mentioned earlier, the Samsung Z Flip 5 is confirmed to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In case you missed it, Motorola launched the Razr 40 Ultra with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It is a last-generation flagship SoC, which can still offer great performance.

So, if you do not plan on running extremely demanding games and apps, you should not notice any performance difference between the Razr 40 Ultra and Z Flip 5. However, one place where the Z Flip 5 will shine is in terms of app support.

As I mentioned earlier, Samsung worked with Google to bring native app support for the cover display. That means most apps will run in the regular mode on the 3.4-inch cover display of the Z Flip 5. This is an advantage for the upcoming Samsung flip phone.

That said, it’s not yet confirmed how much the Samsung Z Flip 5 will cost. But as per previous reports, Samsung is planning to keep the pricing the same as the Z Flip 4. And Z Flip 4 debuted at $999. In comparison, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra goes for around 1319 USD.

So, if Samsung indeed keeps the pricing the same as Z Flip 4, the Z Flip 5 is the clear winner. But again, we will have to wait for the official event to know the official pricing information. And the good news is that you don’t need to wait long.

The phone is just 15 days away from being officially launched. When the event commences, we will know for sure how much of an upgrade Samsung will offer. So, stay tuned!
