Power Up with Samsung: 65W Charging in the Galaxy S24 Ultra Is a Possibility

Samsung plays a conservative game when it comes to equipping its smartphones with fast-charging support. While some smartphone makers are breaking the limits with 200W charging and forward, the Korean firm’s flagships have 25W charging or 45W charging in the best scenario. This 45W fast charging was unveiled in 2019 with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. Since then, it’s been the fastest charging standard for Samsung phones and usually comes only with the best flagships like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It seems that after many years, we are finally going forward with 65W charging thanks to the stacked battery technology. If everything goes well, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra could embrace this tech.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra employs a Stacked Battery with 65W charging support

Samsung is borrowing the stacked battery tech which is often present in Electric Vehicles. According to @RGCloudS, the stacked battery will come in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and possibly the Samsung Galaxy S24+. Everything depends on the supply chain. Currently, Samsung is running tests with batteries made at a Chinese plant as the plant in Cheonan is waiting for the manufacturing equipment to arrive.

Gizchina News of the week

It’s an interesting development for Samsung and for the smartphone scene. While most of the brands are increasing the charging rate of the current battery tech, Samsung wants to explore alternatives. The stacked battery tech brings the benefit of charging faster. With this tech, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will go up to 65W charging, which is 20W faster than the Galaxy S23 Ultra (45W). The phone will also bring a 5,000 mAh battery, which means Samsung won’t sacrifice capacity for the speed increase.

While 65W charging for the next year sounds promising, there is still a chance it does not happen. If the production capacity does not fit the demand for the entire Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Samsung may opt for 25W charging on the small Galaxy S24. The next year’s flagships will also be a good test for the stacked battery tech, which will eventually hit Samsung’s foldable smartphone lineup. For now, we can only wait and see whether the constraints in the supply chain will be lifted or if they will hold this advancement for at least one more year.

More about the Stacked Battery Tech

If you’re interested in more details about the stacked battery tech. This technology refers to a novel approach to designing and arranging multiple battery cells in a compact and efficient manner. Unlike the traditional battery packs where cells are side by side, the stacked tech vertically stacks individual cells on top of each other. Hence, the space is used in a more efficient way. This innovative design enables increased energy density and capacity within a smaller footprint. It’s suitable for various applications such as electric vehicles, portable electronics, and renewable energy storage systems. The tech offers enhanced power output, longer operating times, and improved overall performance.
