As Android TV diminishes in prominence, Google TV is expanding its presence on various form factors, including an upcoming series of projector products from Xgimi and MediaTek.

Unveiled at CES 2024 alongside the new Horizon Max and “Aladdin” projectors, Xgimi has announced a new collaboration with Google and MediaTek. This partnership aims to introduce a “range” of new devices over the course of this year.

Until now, Xgimi has exclusively provided projectors with the Android TV experience. Therefore, the shift to adopting Google TV is noteworthy, particularly considering that only a few projectors currently feature this newer experience. The first such projector came into existence about a year ago, the Leica Cine 1.

The Xgimi Horizon Max and Aladdin will be the brand’s initial projectors powered by Google TV.

The collaboration with MediaTek also holds promise, as MediaTek also focuses on delivering premium experiences. For instance, Sony Bravia TVs run on MediaTek chips. Currently, Xgimi employs chips from Amlogic in many of its devices, which is consistent with numerous other Android TV OS devices, although the specific chip can vary across devices.
