Microsoft has shared plans to update Outlook with four fresh “modern” themes. These new themes aim to give users more ways to personalize their email client. Along with these visual updates, Microsoft will also introduce AI-generated themes, making customization more flexible than ever before.

Four modern themes for Outlook

Outlook will receive the new designs for both its Windows app and web version. As listed in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap (Feature ID 417004), the goal of these updates is to provide more “personal touch and style” within the app. However, Microsoft has not yet shown what these new themes will look like.

According to the Outlook team, these designs will allow users to better express their style through the app. This shift aligns with Microsoft’s goal to keep its email platform modern and user-friendly. Microsoft Outlook Team said

“We add four new designs to Outlook for Windows and the Outlook Web application. These designs give your email client more personalization and expressiveness.”

AI themes powered by Copilot

In addition to the standard themes, Outlook will soon offer AI-generated custom themes. Using Microsoft Copilot, users will be able to create their own designs for the app. As detailed in another Roadmap entry (Feature ID 394682), this feature will give Outlook users the freedom to shape the app’s look based on personal preferences.

These AI themes reflect Microsoft’s growing push to use AI tools across many parts of Windows. Once launched, users will find these new theme options in the settings menu of Outlook.

Microsoft will roll out both the modern and AI-based themes starting next month. The update will happen step-by-step, so not all users will get the new themes at the same time.

These visual improvements are part of a larger wave of updates to Outlook. Recent changes include better offline features and faster email sync. Microsoft is also working to merge popular features like the calendar into other apps, such as Microsoft Teams, to boost productivity.

With these updates, Microsoft is looking to keep Outlook fresh and in line with user needs. The mix of modern designs and AI-powered themes shows the company’s focus on giving users both choice and flexibility. As more features roll out, Outlook is set to become not only a tool for emails but also a space for personal style and seamless work tasks.
