Samsung and Google have collaborated to create a new mixed reality (XR) headset. The headset has recently appeared on the Geekbench test website under the codename “Project Moohan.” The headset will challenge Apple’s Vision Pro in the emerging XR market.
Samsung’s New XR Headset Revealed in Geekbench Benchmark!
The headset has a new XR processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. The headset comes with a six-core Cortex-A78C CPU according to Geekbench details. Two of the processors run at 2.36 GHz and four run at 2.05 GHz. That is what is meant to balance power and efficiency. The phone, in graphics, uses the Adreno 740 GPU. The GPU supports such features as low-latency full-color switching and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. It also supports rendering, meant to provide enhanced visual quality by focusing on where the user is focusing.
A special feature of this headset is its “Space Warp” image prediction system. It creates extra frames without overloading the GPU. It reduces motion sickness and tiredness on use. Also, it smooths out the rapid movements and makes the experience enjoyable and comfortable.
Samsung’s Upcoming XR Headset Spotted on Geekbench
Geekbench results also indicate that the headset comes with 16 GB of RAM. This will enable the headset to run premium XR content smoothly. The operating system is a customized Android 14, which has been specifically designed for use in XR devices. The custom Android features artificial intelligence in order to better interact with the user and make the experience as intuitive as possible.
Samsung does not stop with Project Moohan. There is another device in development with the codename SM-I130. That device can belong to Samsung’s other XR initiatives called “Project Haean” or “Project Jinju.” Those devices are designed to be thinner and look like regular glasses. That means Samsung intends to offer different types of XR devices for different uses.
In short, Samsung and Google’s new headset shows Samsung’s strong commitment to mixed reality. With premium-grade hardware, smart capabilities like Space Warp, and an Android OS tailored to XR, the firm positions itself as a company to watch closely. The new hardware holds some bright prospects for developers and users alike.
