Google Play Store may introduce alerts for deals, “New” and “Premium” categories

Some recent changes in the Play Store suggest that Google is experimenting some new features that may soon be introduced into the platform.

The first feature being tested offers users the opportunity to receive the latest deals and updates from the Play Store. Most likely, if you activate the feature, Google will send notifications on highly anticipated apps and games, as well as discounts on games, apps or in-app purchases.

The functionality is presented to a limited number of users with a pop-up asking them if they want to activate it, as you can see in the images below.

The second feature concerns the “New” and “Premium” categories that are added to the navigation bar at the top of the Play Store. The “New” category includes recently published applications, as well as new apps and games that offer pre-registration, while the “Premium” category includes paid apps and games.

These updates seem to be two independent updates, since some users have received the update regarding the offers, while others have received the one with the “New” and “Premium” cards.

It is worth to mention that the Play Store has recorded a revenue growth of 27% in 2018, reporting a better result than the Apple App Store.
