Communications equipment is determined as hardware used for the purposes of telecommunications. Starting early 90s, the boundary between communication equipment and IT hardware has become blurred as a result of the growth of the internet. According to the reports released in 2017, the world’s largest communications equipment manufacturing countries are China, the US, Japan, Finland, and Sweden. Moreover, the world’s largest vendors are considered to be Huawei, Cisco, Fujitsu, Nokia, etc. As for this year, there is yet no official data concerning this field. But today, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the operation of China’s electronic information manufacturing industry in 2018. Among them, the added value of the communications equipment manufacturing industry increased by 13.8% year-on-year, and the export delivery value increased by 12.6%. As for the main products, mobile devices production decreased by 4.1% year-on-year, while the smartphone production was down 0.6% year-on-year.

Overall, the added value of the electronic manufacturing industry increased by 13.1% year-on-year, faster than the growth rate of all industries above designated size by 6.9%. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the revenue from the main business of electronic manufacturing above designated size increased by 9.0% year-on-year, total profit decreased by 3.1% year-on-year, the main profit margin was 4.51%, and the main business cost increased by 9.1%.
In addition to the communications equipment manufacturing industry, the added value of electronic components and electronic specialty materials manufacturing, electronic device manufacturing and computer manufacturing increased by 13.2%, 14.5%, and 9.5%, respectively. In the computer manufacturing industry, notebook computer production increased by 0.6% year-on-year, tablet production increased by 2.8% year-on-year, and the industry profit increased by 4.7% year-on-year.
