Samsung is working on a fresh new design for DeX. This change is expected to arrive with the One UI 8 update, which is based on Android 16. At the same time, Google is also preparing to launch a new ādesktop modeā for Android. It seems like Samsung is building on top of that.
What is DeX?
Samsung DeX lets you turn your Galaxy phone or tablet into a desktop-like computer. You can connect your device to a monitor with a cable or wirelessly. Once connected, your phone switches to a new layout with a desktop-style interface. You can open apps in windows, use a mouse and keyboard, and get real work done. Some Galaxy tablets even run DeX directly on their screens.
Whatās New in the Updated DeX?
A user on Twitter/X, @DevOfIpos, managed to activate the new DeX on a Galaxy S25 Ultra running One UI 8. They shared screenshots showing the changes.
Hereās whatās different:
- A cleaner window system for easier multitasking
- A new taskbar that opens an app drawer, just like on a PC
- A redesigned Quick Settings panel
These features arenāt brand new, but they look much better now. The design seems to match Googleās upcoming desktop mode for Android 16.
Why This Matters
It looks like Google and Samsung are working in the same direction. Google is improving Androidās desktop tools, and Samsung is using those changes to improve DeX. That means a smoother and more powerful DeX experience is likely coming soon.
More Features in One UI 8
Along with DeX, the leak shows other updates in One UI 8:
- Better Galaxy Buds support for older models
- More system blur effects
- A new Quick Share app
- Secure Folder now uses Androidās new Private Space API
These upgrades show that Samsung is polishing both its design and features. Weāll likely hear more once Android 16 gets closer to launch.
