Huawei presented its new flagship champions in China today, starting with the Huawei Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro. The devices are the company's base flagships, which sit below the beefier
Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max and the RS Ultimate Design. The Huawei Mate 80 and 80 Pro share some similarities, including the display and battery. However, the Pro carries some exclusive features that make it worthy of the Pro name.
Huawei Mate 80 and 80 Pro Specifications and Features
The
Huawei Mate 80 and
80 Pro share the same 6.75-inch LTPO OLED panel with an adaptive refresh rate that ranges from 1 to 120Hz. It has the so-called 1.5K resolution with 2,832 x 1,280 pixels of resolution. The dispaly is impressively bright with a whopping 8,000nits of peak brightness. It's the brightest ever on a phone. The screen also has 1440Hz PWM dimming and a 300Hz touch sampling rate. Atop these impressive displays, there is the second-generation Kunlun Glass.
Both Huawei Mate 80 series phones share a 3D ToF face scanning camera in the front. Interestingly, Huawei opts for a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of the most popular under-display sensor. Moving on, the phones also come with satellite communication.
Both phones come with the same 5,750mAh battery with the same fast-charging tech. It has up to 100W wired and up to 80W wireless charging. The capacity is not on par with the current trend of crazy Si-C capacities. However, this capacity is still good enough for a full-day battery flagship. When it comes to the vanilla Huawei Mate 80 comes with respectable 66W wired and 50W wireless speeds.
The Huawei Mate 80 has a triple-camera system on the rear with a 13 MP selfie camera with auto-focus. The Huawei Mate 80 has a 50 MP wide camera with variable aperture and a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor. The devices have a 40 MP ultrawide with an f/2.2 lens, and finally, a 12MP 5.5x zoom camera with a 125mm f/3.4 lens. The Pro has the same ultrawide and wide cameras, but brings a 48 MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and a brighter aperture. Both setups come with Huawei's second-gen Red Maple imaging chip that tunes processing and color.
The phones run on HarmonyOS 6 with new UI elements and various AI features.
