Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max and 80 RS Arrive With Dual Telephoto Cameras

After a couple of teasers, Huawei unveiled its new Huawei Mate 80 lineup in China. The brand embraces the trend of Pro Max smartphones, with the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max being one of the most interesting devices in the family. It comes alongside the new Huawei Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design that follows the tradition of the RS lineup with an unusual design. 

Both the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design share two interesting aspects. Both have dual telephoto cameras, and both feature huge 6,000mAh batteries. 

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max is similar in design to the Huawei Mate 80 Pro. However, it comes with a larger display, a more powerful CPU, a quad-rear camera system, and a bigger battery. The phone flaunts a gorgeous 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate and impressive 8,000-nit peak brightness. 

Under the hood, the handset has the Kirin 9030 SoC with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of Internal Storage. The phone runs HarmonyOS 6 which brings big UI changes and new AI features.

Moving to the camera setup, the Huawei Pro Max has a Quad-Camera system with a 50 MP primary shooter with variable aperture and OIS.

There is also a 40 MP ultrawide snapper, a 50 MP macro telephoto camera with f/2.1 aperture and OIS, and another 50 MP periscope telephoto with OIS and 6.2x optical zoom. Huawei boosts the camera capabilities with its second-gen Red Maple imaging chip. 

For selfies and video calls, there is a 13 MP camera with 3D depth sensing tech. 

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max has a 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging support. The phone has an IP68 + IP69 rating, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, satellite communication, NFC, USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, stereo speakers, and an IR Blaster. 

The phone sells in Aurora Blue, Polar Day Gold, Polar Region Silver, and Polar Night Black colors. It is 8.25 mm thick and weighs in at 239 grams. 

The Huawei Mate 80 RS Ultima Design continues the legacy of this lineup with a unique design, with a diamond-shaped camera module and a distinct rear panel. Apart from the unique design, the device shares a lot with the Pro Max.

The phones share the same chipset, displays, camera, battery, and other specs. The only difference is that the RS Ultimate comes with 20 GB of RAM as standard. 

The device also features a titanium mid-frame and 3rd-gen tempered Kunlun glass on the display. The phone is 8.25mm thick and weighs only 249g. The Ultimate Design is available in Hibiscus Purple, Jet Black, and Pure White color options. 

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max sells at CNY 7,999 ($1,125) for the 16GB/512GB option, whereas the 16GB/1TB variant will set you back CNY 8,999 ($1,265). 

On the other hand, the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design costs CNY 11,999 ($1690) for the option with 20GB/512GB, and CNY 12,999 ($1830) for the 20GB/1TB model.
