Infinix has launched the Hot 70 Pro in India, and it brings something you don't often see at this price. There's a small Active Matrix Cube on the back that can show alerts, emojis and other effects. You also get a 144Hz display, a 6,000mAh battery and five years of security updates.
Prices start at Rs 22,999, or around $245, with the launch offer.

What's that thing on the back?

Infinix calls it the Active Matrix Cube. It's built into the rear of the phone and can show alerts for calls, messages, charging and low battery. It can also display the weather, countdowns and camera alerts.
Things get a little more fun when you're playing music or games, as the Cube can show different light effects. There's also Matrix Studio, which lets you create your own patterns and emojis.
Is it something you really need on a phone? Probably not. But I like seeing brands try something different, especially in a market where many phones are starting to look the same.
The Hot 70 Pro itself comes in four colors. Thermo Orange can change its look based on temperature, while Mirage Green glows under UV light. Silk Glow Purple and Dive Blue are the more normal choices.

A 144Hz display at this price

On the front is a 6.76-inch FHD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling. Brightness can reach 910 nits in HBM mode.
Inside, you'll find the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 with UFS 2.2 storage. Infinix says some popular games can run at up to 90fps, so the high refresh rate isn't there just to make scrolling look smoother.
The camera setup is simple. There's a 50MP Sony IMX882 main camera with 2x lossless zoom, along with an 8MP camera on the front. Infinix has also added AI Eraser and AI Extender for quick photo edits.

Bigger battery, longer support

Battery capacity is 6,000mAh, with 45W charging. Infinix says you can reach 50 percent in around 25 minutes. There's also 10W reverse charging if you need to give another device some power.
IP68 water and dust resistance is included, which is nice to see at this price. You also get NFC and a new One-Tap AI Button. It can be set to open more than 50 apps or launch Gemini.
The Hot 70 Pro runs XOS 16 based on Android 16. More importantly, Infinix is promising three major Android updates and five years of security patches. That's a solid promise for a phone in this price range, and one I think matters more than adding another AI feature.
The phone comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Sales will take place through Flipkart and retail stores in India.
The Active Matrix Cube will probably get most of the attention, but the rest of the package looks more interesting to me. A 144Hz screen, 6,000mAh battery, IP68 rating and five years of security updates for around $245 is a pretty good mix.
