Samsung may be set to shake up its
fold line once again. A new wide Galaxy Z Fold has now
been seen in test files
tied to One UI 9. While it is not yet live, this is the clearest hint so far
that such a phone is real.
For months, there have been talks of
a wider Fold. Last year, some fan art gave us an idea of what it could look
like. Now, small bits of code seem to back up those early ideas.
One
UI 9 Shows New Fold Clues
Test builds of One UI 9 have shown
up online. These builds are said to be for the yet-to-be-named Samsung Galaxy Z
Fold8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8.
In the files, users found a few
short animated clips. These clips show a Fold that looks wider than past
models. The change is not huge, but it is clear enough to spot. The clips do
not give away full specs or firm size. Still, their mere use in test code hints
that Samsung is at least toying with the idea of a new shape.
Why
a Wider Fold Matters
Past
Fold phones have had a tall and
slim front screen. Some users felt that the slim width made typing and web use
a bit tight. A wider build could fix that.
With more width, the cover screen
may feel more like a normal phone. This could make daily use smoother. It may
also help with apps that need more space. Samsung has led the fold race for
years. A shift in size may show that the firm is still keen to tweak and test
new forms.
Not
a Sure Launch Yet
That said, a test build does not
mean a sure launch. Firms test many ideas that never reach store shelves. Plans
can shift. A device can be cut at any time.
The wide Fold seen in One UI 9 is a
strong sign of work in progress. No word yet on when it might ship or if it
even will. For now, fans can only watch and wait. If this large Galaxy Z Fold
makes it to market, it could be one of the boldest designs in the line.
