Newman takes on the iPad mini with the 7.2mm Newsmy S8 Mini quad-core tablet

Newman have been branching out and doing very well over the past year. They first hit our radar with the dual-core Newman N1 then later last year with the Samsung Exynos equipped Newman N2, now they are back again this time with a quad-core mini tablet.

The Newsmy S8 Mini is a 7.9-inch mini tablet based on an all aluminum body menacing just 7.2mm thick. The display is an OGS 1024 x 768 capitative panel with multi-touch support and there are dual cameras fitted to the device, 2 mega-pixel front, 5 mega-pixel rear.

Newman have opted for a quad-core Cortex A9 processor running at 1.6Ghz with 2GB RAM for the Newsmy S8 Mini so performance shouldn’t be an issue. An option of either 8GB or 16GB can be expanded with a 32GB SD card and there are ports for USB and HDMI out.

Would have been nice if it came with 3G built-in. Still waiting for the perfect tablet.

1024×768 is too low these days, 720p for 8” and 1080p for 10” should be the minimum

FYI…720p is 1280×720 which isn’t far away from 1024×768. I don’t think you would notice a difference between these resolutions. In addition this tablet has a 4:3 aspect ratio. As far as I can see it looks the same as a Chuwi V88?

You know that iPad Mini with same screen size has same resolution, right? These tablets are competitors fot iPad Mini and provide same or better specifications for lower price, although people complain about their displays.

I think the solution specs is similar to the iPad mini which they are trying to emulate. I like the look of this alongside the Chuwi minipad, Cube minipad & Ramos minipad. Just which to choose thats all

Also consider the new Novo 8 Discovery tablet from Ainol Electronics that features Bluetooth, unlike the Newsmy S8 mini — Discovery launches in late May and is priced at $159, with one of the first sites to offer this new model is TabletSprint — and features a Quad Core processor with 2GB DDR3, 16GB Memory, a 7.85″ screen (mini iPad size screen); offers bluetooth, MicroSD storage, HDMI, and is one of the first tablets on the market to work with Miracast HD Wireless… similar to Apple’s $150 AirPlay system, and with a Miracast adapter ($35) provides wireless connection to any HD TV – ideal for streaming movies (Netflix), to play video games, and to display any other content to a TV —

I don’t get these tablet products. Always one step short of being complete.
They never offer 3G in them and offer highr res. Or they are low res and have 3G.

I can’t believe nobody still makes a MTK Quad core 10.1 or even better a 9.7″ Tablet with FullHD and 3G. Its just a bigger phone…

Some of those current high res tablets cost less than phones we are buying today.

Settled for Nexus 7 32 GB, 3G. No rear camera, no SD card but I’ve not seen anything major to complain about…. Don’t think the Memopad HD 7 comes with 3G either!!

why fail? still a very decent resolution for a tablet. You really think it makes a tablet unuseable with lower res?

Which 7 inch android tablet would you buy……Nexus 7 & forget the rest ?

  9. May 13, 2013

How does this tablet stands compared to HKC Quest Q79? I think about buying it for 879RMB with reasonable 7.6mm thickness and pretty same specifications except 1GB RAM
