More Huawei Honor 2 details announced a Xiaomi M2 Killer?

Looks like the international press are getting excited about the new quad-core Huawei Honor 2 which we wrote about a week ago. Check out the latest details of Huawei’s Xiaomi M2 killer!

So why am I saying the Huawei Honor 2 could be a Xiaomi M2 killer? Well both phones run a quad-core CPU although the 4-core unit in the Huawei Honor 2 is a custom chip name the K3V2 clocked at 1.4Ghz. Bothe the Xiaomi M2 and Honor 2 have 2GB RAM and both are capable of 1080 video!

The rear camera’s on both the M2 and Honor 2 are 8 mega-pixel so they are level pegging their, but it is in the screen, price and availability stakes where Huawei could outshine the Xiaomi M2.

Gizchina News of the week

The Huawei Honor M2 has a larger 4.5 inch display with 1,280 x 720 resolution, where as the M2 has a smaller 4.3 inch display yet Huawei have managed to beat Xiaomi on price and have set the Huawei Honor 2 retails price at just 1888 Yuan ($300).

But this all pales in comparison to the fact that the Huawei Honor 2 will be available in large quantities from launch date and will be available in retails stores, which is a thousand times better than the Xiaomi method of pre-sale and lottery sales!

I’m so glad I heard about it yesterday night. I was going to be stressed the whole day with the stupid idea of competing with 80 Million Chinese to get 2 of the 50K phones Xiaomi will release today.

Now I can relax and just wait Thursday to order my Honor 2. The only shame is that when I heard about a new huawei, I found the information about the Huawei D2 (5 inch screen, 13M pixel rear camera!) so I got almost disappointed when I found out that D2 is not going to be released soon enough.

Anyway, a cheaper phone from a bigger company with slightly better spec, I’m not going to complain 😉

From where will you order the Huawei? My Chinese is too weak to figure this one out haha. (However I do live in China, so the order itself is not a problem)

    Ugly !!!

    • October 29, 2012

Ugly? It is a rectangle with rounded corners, other than the blatant patent infringement it looks like a definite alternative to the MI-2, I’m with Drazuhl on this one.

It even has DLNA and a MicroSD slot that Xiaomi doesn’t have, looking better the more I read. Here is the full spec sheet.

I was waiting to buy the Xiaomi M2 today and actually I was one of the lucky few who got to the “Select Phone” screen. Selected the 32 GB and all I needed to do was to put in the verification code… wait what verification code!? Thats right, it didnt load. Refreshed, same thing. Refreshed; out of stock!

Im happy to see that Huawei wants my money instead, thanks for these great news!

      Exactly!
I already didn’t plan to buy the M2 since yesterday, I am glad I did, I was busy with my boss during the… 2 minutes 51 seconds it took for the 50K phones to be sold out. So no regrets for me 🙂

My question its were someone outside of China can buy it with confidence ?

How does Huawei generally handle updates for Android? Seeing this is not running Jelly Bean, what are the chances for users to get this update?

The previous Honor does have MIUI-mod avaible, if this one also gets that than Xiaomi are in deep trouble.

Well it also depends what architecture the cpu is if it is a Cortex A15 THEN SURE WE DO HAVE A COMPETITOR! if its a A9 and you can get the xiaomi M2 with the A15 for 100 yuan extra.. why not!!!

      it’s a Cortex A9.Xiaomi Mi2 are Faster with Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU !!!

It all depends what you want I guess, do you need a phone that benchmarks 1000 higher on Antutu or do you want it? I’m sure Apps haven’t quite caught up to these phones yet. I wish they would make a phone that would pack all that horsepower and features into a 4 inch screen with a 3mm bezel. Whatever happened to making a phone that you could operate with one hand and fit it in your pocket.

Will I agree on that, the Chipset in Xiaomi is better but not so much, in Antutu you will get perhaps 3000 more on the score, while this Huawei chipset scores around 11000 a 12000 and the Xiaomi scored in the 14000.

So yes the Xiaomi is slightly better on paper, but for me the Honor 2 still got some parts which makes its a better choose, there is an SD card slot and its cheaper and the screen is bigger.

In fact I compare the 32GB Xiaomi M2 with the Honor 2 because the honor 2 can fit mine 32gb SD card. I will be going to China at end off the year and then I want to buy an Chinese smartphone, but if the Xiaomi M2 s then still hard to get then the choice is easy.

Huawei will be much easier to buy too 😉

Yes I can also use amazon.cn and let it be delivered in China, I don’t think I will be able get my hands on Xiaomi Mi2.

And overall I find this Huawei Honor 2 very good, it got quite an big battery, 2230mAh which is more then the Nexus 4 also.
