Zopo Confirm it will update the ZP980 to Turbo spec

Zopo have confirmed that their flagship ZP980 5-inch Android phone will soon get updated with a faster MT6589T Turbo processor.

The Zopo ZP980, which retails for 1499 Yuan here in China, is already a high spec phone and boasts a quad-core CPU, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and also a 5-inch 1080 display, but the Chinese phone world is a fast paced place and to keep up with rivals Zopo have announced that they will update the ZP980 to the more powerful MT6589T SoC!

Gizchina News of the week

Both the standard 1GB RAM, 16GB ROM and Ultimate 2GB RAM, 32GB ROM versions of the Zopo ZP980 will be updated to the 1.5Ghz MT6589T chip, which also sports a faster GPU. No news on if this update will increase the price of the phone, or indeed drop current ZP980 prices, but from Zopo’s past launches we shouldn’t have long to find out.

Thanks to Simon for the tip.

I didn’t know that there was a 2GB RAM version of the ZP980. Honestly as a Nexus 4 owner; I really don’t care about the clock speed. RAM is more important. I find that Android OS constantly has to close background apps due to RAM starvation. If that’s happening on my 2GB Nexus 4, I wonder how would it go with a 1GB RAM phone.

The last time I was in Shenzhen I came across a Zopo shop. Can’t remember where exactly, but it’s not too far from Huaqiangbei station.

I was impressed by zopo zp 980 4gb first priced at 12k now at 13k in India. Also liked iOcean x7 youth, jiayu G3, umi. Though these companies increase and decrease prices as they wish, no one sold a single handset so far. At the same time Indian companies depending on OEMs have no problem. Recently Wickedleak launched Wammy passion Z exactly looks like iOcean youth or Oppo find. I was wondering why these chinese companies having the manufacturing units fail to sell a single handset on time.

They do not sell the ZP980 in China. They sell the C2. The only difference is that the C2 does not run Android. It runs Aliyun which is a mobile OS created by Alibaba. Also for the 1,499 yuan I only see the one with 1gb ram and 4 gb rom. I’ve seen the 16 GB C2 for 1,599 and they have a limited release of 2 gb ram and a 32 gb rom for 1,899.
