UMi to begin development on the UMi Max but even they don’t know what it is yet!

We guess UMi are pretty happy with the UMi X2 (although some customers might disagree) and have decided to move their resources in to the development of the UMi Max, a device even UMi have no idea what it is yet…

Earlier in the year UMi leaked their roadmap for this year which showed the UMi X2, X1s UMi Mini and UMi Max (but interestingly neglected the UMi S1). At the time the UMi Max appeared as a Samsung Galaxy Note device complete with a stylus, but now development has begun were not sure UMi even know what the UMi Max will be!

Gizchina News of the week

From the thread on the official UMi Forum, UMi talk about the Max being a “cross” device i.e a phone and tablet mix, commonly refereed to as a phablet. The thread shows the above render, but then goes on to ask UMi Forum members to vote on what they would like to see from the new device.

Options members can choose from are dual-sim, 1-2GB RAM, 8-32GB built-in memory, F2.2-F1.8 aperture, 720 or 1080 display and screen sized from 5.7-inch to 6.3-inch!

From this we can deduce a few things the UMi Max will be a phablet with RAM, a display and a camera, it will likely cost between 1499 Yuan and 1799 Yuan ($244-$293) and we shouldn’t hold our breath for a launch date.

I think this will be the competitor to Jiayu S1 in year 2020………. 🙂

I bought one of those Umi S1 phones you mentioned. It was defective and I sent it back.

I suspect it wasn’t really an UMI-designed phone – more like a rebadged Star. It was persona non grata on UMI’s own website.

It would be nice if they finished production of the X2 before they started something else. I’m still waiting on mine although I’m being promised it will be sent any day now I don’t believe them.
