While I applaud their desire to improve their offerings, this is really a poor way to run a business. Existing owners of their phones will feel alienated, and in the future people will be apprehensive of buying their products as buying it early is not rewarded.

There are some complains about the quality of the Gorilla Glass in the Chinese phones anyway.
But yeah, I agree with Calvin’s post that it does not sound fair to the customers who already bought those phones. I am one of these customers and I feel bad 🙂

I agree, and it shows clearly Zopo is not ready to be a major player.
They should have anticipated this, bad sourcing of components and even worse communication if the price remain the same, they should offer voucher to their existing customer who bought before august.

On a side note, after coming everyday to Andi’s blog for 1 year, i finally went for
high end device and the Vivo xplay, Oppo/vivo and Xiaomi are the only valuable Chinese brands for me, the rest is not near the level they advertise, if its not the GPS its the camera or the proximity sensor that is faulty, at the end spending 100 to 200 usd more is definitely worth it!
At the end you won’t be disappointed like here and you will save money in a long term perspective (you won’t need to buy new phone every year)

I disagree with you here. I’ve just bough a Bambook S1 for $90 and it’s a quality phone with no obvious bugs. Besides that they continue releasing firmware updates for the phone.
The SOC and camera might not be high end ( dual core A9 @ 1GHz and 5 MO ) but the screen is a nice 4.3 inch 960×640.
There are indeed many Chinese companies that are still not to the level one expects but there are some less known one that make good quality stuff.
Sometimes there are some bugs yes but mostly these can be fixed with a firmware update. If firmware updates are released by that company that is.

Fred what about Nubia by ZTE ?

      • August 9, 2013

+1 to Fred. However I would like to give JiaYu a go too.
@Simon: Yes, even I think that the Nubia is an amazing device. Esp the Z5 mini

Z5 Mini looks good, but it appears they have only brought out the white backing version. When will the other back colours be available ?

Jiayu G4 has a real gorilla Corning glass I think justbuy that as its of good quality I dropped mine on tarmac road while riding and I thought the screen was finished but surprisingly it didn’t break I give a 5 star to Jiayu they are slow but sure

    • August 9, 2013

      “slow but sure”
This is what makes me wait for the 2GB RAM edition to be available in more markets. I really think they make quality devices. I already own a Find 5 and looking forward to using a G4 in the near future. Where did you buy yours from?

My brother bought it for me from Hong Kong from official jiayu shop

@Ronnie, any idea on its address in HKG? Going to HKG in a month or 2. Also interested in the location of official Xiaomi store (or did they close it a while ago, thought i remember something like that). Moreover what is the price you pay/paid there?

Now if zopo offers to replace the current screen with gorilla glass for free, that would say a lot about how they value customers. In zopo forums there are many people complaining over cracked screen issue being a design flaw. I guess zopo finally decides to answer to their own design but turns a blind eye to customers who suffered from zopo’s mistake.

I for one like the chinese business model of upgrading phones during their production life cycle.
Goes to show how versatile they really are and how easy they can keep up with their competition.
I know big companies like to release once a year to have consistency but it is kinda outdated. Not to mention they use it overcharge you.

If the technology us there use it now. People who bought early still have a product they are happy enough they bought in the first place.
You shouldnt spend your life trying to always have the perfect phone anyway. Its not a competition. Its a tool.

      August 12, 2013

yes, that is exactly my gripe and reason for not buying even though this is easily available in India. reviews show build quality is way lower to jiayu g4.

I have bought Ford model T at 1908 but it has no safety belts, zetec engine and navi system :(. Can I count of 5000$ rebate coupon from Ford company???
No !? It is so pity !
Does it mean that Ford “is not ready to be a major player”?

    • August 23, 2013

Your Ford Model T must be worth a fortune now. Lucky you!
