Taiwanese chip maker
Mediatek, who have risen from the ranks of
cheap knock-off phones to high-end devices from Xiaomi, Sony and others, posted their Q3 earnings today showing an impressive 17% increase in
sales.
Mediatek’s strong growth is down to the companies low-cost
SoC solutions for
Android smartphones and tablets allowing
Chinese (and Indian)
phone makers to produce high-end handsets with lower prices than rivals using Qualcomm and Nvidia chips.
The up and coming
processor maker has received a lot of criticism from rivals over their
8-core chipset and from
Android phone fans who want to see Mediatek open up and release source codes and kernels. Still, they are expected to go from strength to strength over the next 12 months with new partnerships with
Samsung on the way, the launch of the
MT6592 Octa-core
SoC and their
first 4G
LTE chip.
