zopo zp998 kitkat update

Zopo ZP998 owners can now stop casting envious glances at mid-range Zopo devices, and can enjoy an Android 4.4 Kitkat update of their very own.

Zopo, Elephone and others have been fast to roll out Android 4.4 Kitkat updates to phones based on the quad-core MT6582 Mediatek processor, but updates for the flagship MT6592 octacore have been a long time coming.

The wait is now over though and Zopo have released an new ROM based on Android 4.4 for the flagship Zopo ZP998. Owners of the ZP998 can download the ROM now and install straight away.

To download the ROM you will have to head over to a Chinese cloud storage webpage and hit the download button (indicated in the image below).

This sounds good! Especially considering I ordered 2 of these yesterday (one for me, one for my Sister) πŸ™‚ I’ll report back in a couple of weeks once I’ve had some use out of it!

Ok, this is for all those like me that had issues with the KitKat upgrade.

    I downloaded the MT65xx Preloader from Zopomobileshop.com

Then I Googled SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1325 and downloaded that

I then went to needrom.com and downloaded the Official ZP998_20140704-100917 KitKat Firmware Upgrade.

On my 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium Laptop I installed the preloader, then the flash tool.

After accessing the scatter file in the flash tool I chose “Firmware Upgrade” from the mini drop down to the left, I hit the Green download arrow up top and then I connected my ZP998 via USB to my laptop and 10mins later I have KitKat installed.

All Black Screen functions work superbly.

You can flash with or without the battery in the phone as I flashed my wife’s with and mine without just as a test.

This isn’t meant as a tutorial but just some free info for those having issues.

As I’ve never had any GPS issues prior too and after the upgrade I can’t say with any certainty. Sorry!
