If you are the proud owner of a Xiaomi Mi2 or Mi2S and thought that the release of MIUI V6 would finally bring an official Android 4.4 build to your phone then think again!
MIUI V6, the latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android ROM, was launched this past weekend and has an officially release date of October time. For the Xiaomi Mi3, and Mi4 the MIUI V6 update will be based on Android 4.4 Kitkat which brings useful features such as Open GL 3.0 and low energy Bluetooth mode to along with other useful features to get the most out of the phones.
This is all well and good if you are on the one of the newer Xiaomi devices, but what if you are on the older, but still very capable, Xiaomi Mi2 or Mi2S? Well the good news is that Xiaomi are building a MIUI V6 update for your phones, but the bad news is that it won’t be based on Android 4.4, but rather Android 4.1!
The news has upset Xiaomi Mi2 and Mi2S owners who had hoped that MIUI V6 would finally allow their phones to get an official build of the newer version Android. Chinese and International fans took to the Xiaomi forums to vent their anger over the details, where it has been accused that moderators removed disappointed threads.
Over on the unofficial Xiaomi.eu forms fans have set up a petition which they hope will generate enough signature to change Xiaomi’s mind over the decision.
Hands on with MIUI V6 on the Xiaomi Mi4
Are you a disappointed MI2/S owner? Will you sign the petition?
