Allwinner have announced a new processor designed specifically for gaming consoles and Android TV boxes.
Chinese chip makers are slowly catching up with Taiwan’s Mediatek in the octacore arms race. Allwinner, a manufacturer generally know for its tablet processor, has announced a new SoC designed for Android TV Box and Android gaming consoles.
The chipset is built around 8 x Cortex A7 cores and a PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Judging by those specs we believe the H8 will be aimed at mid-range 1080p products while the current Allwinner A80 will continue to be the flagship 4K model.
The popularity in Android TV boxes has boomed in recent months, and with the removal of the games console ban in China, more companies are looking to enter the living-room with smart home products.
