Huawei upset Mate 2 owners, will not release Kitkat update

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 owners are up in arms today with the shocking news that their smartphone will not be receiving an Android Kitkat update!

In a blog post on the official Huawei site, staff from the E-commerce side of Huawei posted the bad news and are already receiving upset and angry comments from customers who feel let down by the company.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is a quad-core 1.6Ghz, 6.1-inch fable with 2GB RAM and LTE. Those specs are more than enough to run Android Kitkat, but for reasons not mentioned in the post the phone will be sticking with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

We could look at the possibility that Huawei will be skimping 4.4 Kitkat to deliver Lollypop to the phablet, but if this were the case I’m sure they would have mentioned it! Whatever their reason for the decision it is sure creating a lot of resentment with those who were awaiting the update.

It is confirmed mate 2 is getting emui3.0 update though.

Edit: Also checked, and i see the Chinese models of Mate 2 (telecom, mobile and unicom) have kitkat already. So something to do with international division being lazy.

Either way its pointless to update kitkat now, and better to jump straight to lollipop.

I don’t know how much you check comments on older articles but it turns out the reason Huawei skipped Kit Kat was because they were already building Lolipop: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-mate2/general/update-android-l-mate-2-mt2-l03-t3041070

Unfortunately this update will only be available for some models and not all…
