Xiaomi to take on GoPro in the action camera market?

xiaomi mi4 review

It’s been a market which I have told many in the industry is ripe for the picking, and it looks to be Xiaomi who will be biting the bullet.

Currently, GoPro is the biggest name in action camera for extreme sports. The Hero range is designed for use when climbing, skydiving, and mountain biking (the purpose I use mine for). With great quality video and a lightweight design the GoPro Hero is one of the must have camera to buy, but they are not cheap and this is where Chinese phone makers can move in.

Gizchina News of the week

Rumour has it that Xiaomi could be the first to take on GoPro and manufacturer their own portable sports camera for the emerging sports market in China.  Apparently Xiaomi are teaming up with a company called Ant Technology based in Shanghai on the project and a release could be before the end of the year.

If Xiaomi are producing a action sports camera at their usual low-price point then I will certainly be one of the first customers!

There are quite a lot of Chinese action cams for a relatively low price, such as the highly praised sj4000 action cam (can be bought on many Chinese webshops).

I wonder if Xiaomi can release a good quality action cam for a relatively low price. I will buy one if it has good quality and a low price.

Getting a bit tired of me too products ,they need to show us that they got some brains around there able to create new things.
Would rather see some modular accessories for the Mi Power Bank.Speakers, projectors, cams solar panels( or even hand crank) , flashlight ,wireless charging cover and so on.They sell millions of them but they could do better by making them a lot more useful and there wouldn’t be any competing ecosystem.

You want Xiaomi to “create new things”; so what’s new about speakers, flashlights, solar panels etc that you mentioned?

I congratulate you for being able to read, it’s amazing given your inability to comprehend even the most basic concepts.

I think you need a reality check. Xiaomi are a relatively new company and expectations of them to reinvent the wheel is stupid. Sports/rugged/action cams are a lucrative and growing segment which everyone wants a pie of. Even Sony and more recently HTC got into the segment.
