Meizu MX5 leaks yet again, courtesy Geekbench this time

meizu mx5

Meizu’s phones have been well kept secrets for the most part, but regulatory authorities and benchmark databases have sort of given away the upcoming MX5.

The newest Meizu MX5 leak comes from Geekbench, where the phone scores a rough average of 970 points on the single-core test, and about 5300 average multi-core points through 3 tests. The previous version of the MX series flagship, i.e., the MX4 used the MediaTek MT6595 whereas the MX4 Pro came with the Exynos 5430.

Gizchina News of the week

The Geekbench test confirms that the Meizu MX5 will come powered by the octa-core 2.3GHz MediaTek MT6795T processor, a 5.5-inch screen and 3GB of RAM. If Meizu manage to keep pricing down to the same 1,799 Yuan of the MX4, Meizu certainly will be a force to reckon with this year… but we’re not certain how possible that is.

Anyway, the phone is expected to come out in the coming weeks to replace the MX4. Do you think Meizu will be able to win the battle against other fast-rising Chinese OEMs and their respective flagships with the MX5?

It confirms that it’s at 2.16 GHz not 2.3

It’s 2.2GHz as there is no 2.3GHz version. Very strange that the single core score is no better than the standard version, could mean the ROM isn’t well optimised or there is a bottleneck elsewhere in the system.

A lot of times that can happen on early software builds for new phones as they are still working on optimizing it. That’s usually one of the reasons most new phones have an OTA update within the first few days of purchase.

Flyme is the best looking Rendition of android by far, and I have owned both the MX4 and Mx4 Pro now and haven’t had any issues with it. Love the way it works, It took me about 2 days to get used to it. I love the colors the design and its just beautiful.

Flyme is awesome but for me MIUI is the best version of Android.

Number 1 and number 4 are dependent on each other. If we look at last years ‘flagship’ the MX4 we can guess on these answers but they will be just that guesses.

Last year the MX4 used the best available camera from Sony which was the IMX 230, this year they will probably opt for the IMX 240 which does support 480fps. But don’t rule out them using a Samsung ISOCELL, they have a very good relationship with Samsung, there is a shortage of most Sony sensors (not just the 214) and they opted for an ISOCELL in the M Note, which was surprisingly excellent.

Price will probably be around $330 at the low end to $400 at the high end. As for dual sim my gut tells me no based on past Meizu models.

        mx4 uses IMX220

        • balcobomber25
          June 23, 2015

Yes it did. The 230 though is basically the same camera, its a slightly updated version of the 220. (similar to the 135 and 214).

IMX240 is a smaller size 1/2.6inch 16mp sensor with pixel size of 1.2um.
        Imx220 is a 1/2.3 inch 20.7mp sensor with pixel size of 1.2um.
        imx230 is a 1/2.4 inch 21mp sensor with 1.12um pixel size.

As they gfxbench revealed the resolution being 19mp. im sure that it wont be imx240 in the mx5.
Imx220 is the sensor that will be used in mx5 most probably, and it should be the one. Maybe imx230 can be used as well.

I can almost guarantee it won’t be the 220 as that is what is currently used on the MX4 and for marketing purposes alone they need a new sensor. If it is a 20mp it will be the newer IMX 230 not the 220. But GFX Bench isn’t always exact in their measurements, they have been known to be anywhere from 1-3 MP’s off so it could be any of the sensors listed above as well as the IMX 234 (brother to the 240).

The reason I go with the 240 or 234 is because this is a copycat industry and the current flagships (S6, Note 4, G4, Z9) all use one of those two sensors. Meizu always has done their own thing so you never know.

Dual sim – nope i doubt it.
      Micro sd – Yep.
      Price – Sub 400$.

      Camera sensor – Imx230.
(The imx240 is a 16mp sensor. Mx5 is using 20.7mp acording to gfxbench leak. So its either Imx220 or Imx230.
Omnivision has 20.7mp sensor but meizu usually uses sony sensor.)
I hope they use a large aperture f1.9 or f1.8 this time. And OIS. Will be great for low light shots.

      480fps slow mo vids.
I sure as hell hope so. But i doubt it.
Because mx5 pro will probably have an exynos 7420 soc. which wont support 480fps slow mo. So they wont give a feature on mx5 that wont be avail on the pro version.
      Just a guess.!

All in all mt6795T with 1080P screen at sub 400$ is great. Performance will be good.
Way better than gionee elife e8 that has Mt6795 with qhd at 600$+.

I too hope they’ll include large aperture and OIS.
