Elephone recently announced that their popular P6000 model would receive an update giving the phone more RAM, a new chip and the same low price. Here is the updated phone in action.

Elephone have a bit of a hit and miss reputation, but if one phone from the phone maker this year has continued to surprise (in the good sense) then it is the Elephone P6000. The Original P6000 was one of the first 64bit Mediatek phones on sale and also benefited from Android Lollipop and a decent 64bit chipset.

As the phone has proven to be quite a success, Elephone have decided to update the model with a new MT6753 64bit Octacore processor, 3GB RAM and Android 5.1, a stock Lollipop experience. Take a look at the phone in action in the video below.

Gizchina News of the week

Even with the updates and a new silver rear panel option the Elephone P6000 Pro still manages to cost around $140 online, which is a very interesting price for an octacore, 64bit phone with 3GB RAM.

If the rom on the phone is fast and stable (well optimised) and everything works as it should, this is no doubt a winner in the low price range department. Those specs simply cannot be beat for that price!

Yes, if… which I highly doubt, unfortunately. Otherwise this model is one of the more successful from Elephone and not a complete fail like some other models. If Elephone manages to release a good rom, then it will be a winner. If not capable to fix it, then at least pay someone who knows how. Chinese vendors really need to put more effort in software development. We see numerous 5.5-inchers with 675x, 2/3GB ram, same Sony camera, similar design, sensors etc and what would make a particular device stand out from the whole stack, would be the software… Build quality is much better compared to lets say 2-3 years ago, but software is crap most of the times.

I sincerely hope Elephone gets it right this time, but as I said – doubt it.

The RAM reads 1980MB. Isnt that a 2GB RAM? Maybe because this is an engineering sample.

Well, that is almost 2 GB. Every phone has a little less RAM than stated, because part of it is being used by other things (GPU maybe).

You’re right – it should be 3GB, so either it isn’t the ‘Pro’ version at all and Elephone is just trying to create hype here, or something like you say: engineering sample.

The 2GB will cost only $119.99, that’s a good price,

    I have the original p6000.
Pro version with better processor and higher ram at same price is an instabuy.

I would still wait for Andi to have a go first. Elephone reviews have left a bad taste in my mouth. I am surprised about how they keep going on.
