The Meizu Metal has been over shadowed with releases from LeTV and Xiaomi, but the phone still appears to be good value and well equipped for all of you Flyme lovers. The Meizu Metal is basically the top of the range Meilan phone, i.e a metal bodied Meizu M2 Note with fingerprint scanner.

Gizchina News of the week

Like the other too metal phones, the Meizu also comes equipped with a Mediatek Helio X10 chipset, 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display, but the fingerprint scanner is in the physical home button on the front of the phone.

For today only Shop.Gizchina.Com are offering the Meizu Metal 2GB RAM for just $194.99 with a screen protector.

As a long time MIUI fanboy, I am surprised at just how much I love Flyme. It wins me over more and more everyday to the point where I am starting to look more forward to the MX6 than the Mi5. Xiaomi has to really hit out of the ballpark for me to go back.

Hi Balco, I need your help. I need to buy a phone and am hesitating between the models below:

      – the black wcdam version of the Xiaomi MI4 is again available on Ibuygou and I could get it at 195€ without shipping costs (this phone looks amazing even its SOC is old but still very powerful, its dowside is the storage and the missing LTE frequencies; there is a white version with LTE but I hate white color)
      – Xiaomi MI4C advanced version at 240€ without shipping costs (this phone looks amazing too it has 32gb storage and some LTE frequencies, built quality is not premium as the MI4 and I have seen some reviews saying that if the phone is used intensively for gaming for example the SOC 808 is throttling which explains the random scores in antutu)
      – Redmi Note 3 avanced version (never had a 5.5 inch phone but this one is very competitive for the price, and with the time I could adopt its size even if it is bulky)
      – Meizu Metal (width is 75mm which is nice, wondering if 2gb of Ram is enough for the system)

I am not a huge gamer but I will play a few ones like Fifa. I want to keep the phone for at least 1.5 years or more. Of course camera is really important for me, storage is important too. I am really lost, if the Black MI4 (wcdma) had 32gb storage I would have gone it without hesitation. That being said, I am not going to install tons of applications or games. I don’t care about 4g connection at all, it could be nice to have it but I can live without it. The MI5 will be anounced soon but after resellers price will be around 380€ without shipping costs which is above my budget.

In your opinion what is the best investment in the list above?

      Thanks in advance!

I am a former Mi4 owner and loved that phone, one of the best I used. As for the build quality I have used most Xiaomi models and they all had excellent build quality, this one is no different. You would be surprised how easy it is to get used of a 5.5 inch phone, if you are used to 5 inch phones. I know quite a few people that use a Mi4c and none of them have experienced any throttling, outside of running benchmarks (like Antutu). Most SoC’s will throttle when running benchmarks. In my opinion I would get either Mi4c or Note 3.

Hi Balco, thank you for your answer. I would love to go for the MI4 black wcdma for the premium style the phone has. I mean MI4C is great but feel cheap against the MI4. The only bad thing is the storage, I don’t really trust cloud for pictures and videos. How much GBs were left on your MI4 after installing a couple of apps? It is a shame that Xiaomi didn’t released a 32gb variant of the MI4 cos having the last SOC isn’t an obsession for me. I prefer the functionality and longevity. If I had extra money I would have gone for it but I need to take a reasonable decision. I never had an android phone before and my last one was a 4.3″ phone. I tested a Huawei Mate S at a shop in France, it has the same width as the redmi note 3 but the later one is much bulky. I was expecting the anouncement of Xiaomi regarding a potential Redmi 3 with a snapdragon soc but nothing has been confirmed yet. I really like MX5 (compact) but the 32gb variant is very expensive for me around 310€ without shipping costs. Anyway, I will check some tests around and then decide which phone I will get.
          All the best Balco!

What makes you think the Mi4c feels cheap? Have you actually held both devices? The only major difference between the two is the Mi4 has a metal border. Other than that they both feel very well built and premium in the hand.

They did release a 64GB model but good luck finding one and if you do it will be too much money and not worth it. You have about 12GB of usable space on the Mi4 when it ships, it all depends on which apps you use. I had some social media apps, a video editor, about 5 restaurant apps and a few games and still had over 8GB left. I use Google’s Cloud Storage for all my photos, whenever I am on a wifi connection it uploads all my photos to Google and then I just delete them off my device so that saves a lot of space. And I switched from actual music, to music streaming services.

Hehe definitely true, never hold both devices in my hands. I think I will choose between Redmi Note 3 and the MI4C advanced version. Thanks for your help Balco, I appreciate!!!

No problem don’t get me wrong the Mi4 is an excellent phone and one of the best I have ever used but the Mi4c is just as good and probably better for your needs.

I just hate meizu’s Android customization. They removed on screen buttons and tried to replace them with ios like button configuration, which in my view messed up chrome , Google now and other Android functionality.
