Chuwi Vi8 Plus, aka first USB Type-C Windows 10 tablet finally arrives

A few weeks back we reported about a new tablet in development from Chinese tablet maker Chuwi. The device — Chuwi Vi8 Plus — is now official and is being touted as the first Windows 10 tablet to have a USB Type-C port.

While I’m not sure if that is the case (Dell, HP seem to already have some), the Vi8 Plus could definitely be the first sub-$100 device in history to have the Type-C port.

Trivia aside, let’s talk specs.

The Chuwi Vi8 Plus has an Intel Cherry Trail X5 Z8300 1.84GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB on-board storage. The screen is — as the name suggests — 8 inches wide diagonally with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

Other specs of the tablet include a 2 mega-pixel rear camera, a front camera with the same resolution, and a 4000mAh battery. As mentioned, the tablet runs Windows 10 out of the box and has a USB Type-C port.

For $97 shipped worldwide (on Geekbuying.com), the Vi8 Plus looks like quite a deal. The only Chuwi tablet I’ve spent time with is the Vi10, which is a mighty impressive device but with a larger screen. You can read the review here.

I’m using tablet with Chromecast. Can Windows tablet work with Chromecast? Can I cast video streaming from Chrome browser to Chromecast? Or is it advisable for me to buy an android tablet instead?

I’m in the Teclast camp, not sure about the others but my Teclast X80h is a solid device and I’ve currently got it running Lollipop/Windows 10 with no problems at all…

I have a Teclast P80 MTK8392 with 3G SIM and it’s a solid device, it can also make calls. I believe that Teclast is one of the best brands around.

Teclast, Cube, and Chuwi are the top 3 IMO.

ATOM Z8300 is technically light years behind the Z8500 (which is the rational choice when price compared to the Z8700).
Those will be the tablets that matter and that will challenge the low line of Surface: Z8500 and minimum FullHD screens.
