It’s hard not to like the sleek look of the new Meizu Pro 6, but once you delve in to the specifications is this a step forward or a step backward compared to the previous Meizu Pro 5.
Meizu are touting the Meizu Pro 6 as the first 10 core smartphone. This is up to debate as the Zopo Speed 8 was announced at MWC this year, but it remains unavailable to buy at this time. So, yes the Pro 6 is the first 10 core you can buy but not the first 10 core phone.
Anyway, with a Helio X25 chipset, 4GB RAM, metal chassis and new 3D Press display the Pro 6 does look impressive at first glance, but is it really better than the previously launched Meizu Pro 5? Let’s take a look at the specifications.
Meizu Pro 5 vs Meizu Pro 6 Specifications

Going over the specifications there are a few differences and a few similarities between the two, but which Meizu is the winner for you?
Gizchina News of the week
If we look at the Meizu Pro 5, the advantages are a larger 5.7-inch display, the Samsung Exynos chipset (some of you will see this as an advantage others won’t mind the Mediatek chip), but the main point has to be the larger 3050mAh battery.
Then on the other hand the Meizu Pro 6 does have that 10 core Helio X25 chipset, comes with 4GB RAM has standard, and runs Flyme 5.2 based on Android 6.0.
The rest of the hardware is similar. Both phones come with either 32GB or 64GB memory, both phones have the same 5 mega-pixel front camera, and rear Sony IMX230 rear, both have fingerprint scanners and both have metal bodies (in fact the larger 5.7-inch Pro 5 is only 8g heavier than the Pro 6!).
Pricing at launch for both phones wasn’t far off either. The 3GB + 32GB version of the Pro 5 retailed at 2799 Yuan when launched while the 4GB + 64GB version was 3099 Yuan. Today’s Pro 6 launch priced the phones at 2499 Yuan for the 32GB model and 2799 Yuan for the 64GB model. Keep in mind though that Meizu are well known for cutting the pricing of older models, so expect Meizu Pro 5 prices to drop to less than the Pro 6 in the coming weeks.
Looking at the two Meizu flagships side by side I have to admit I do like the look of the new Meizu Pro 6, the ring flash is cool and 3D Press might be interesting to have in the future, but in real world situations and day to day use my head tells me the Meizu Pro 5 is a better deal with it’s larger display, bigger battery and very similar hardware and pricing.
Going over the two Meizu phones which would you chose?
Of course it is. RIP Meizu. LeTV and others will rise.
The only upgrade that the Pro 6 provides is the 3D Press (and 4GB of RAM on the 32GB variant). Really Meizu ?! How removing the MicroSD card slot and use the exact same cameras can justify the name of the phone. It should be the Pro 5S “Mini”
To be fair Meizu doesn’t often upgrade the camera between models. They tend to stick to the same sensor (or sensor family) for a few models. They take an iPhone like approach when it comes to cameras.
I would have preferred 5.5 inch.
They did a downgrade in Ram (DDR4 to DDR3).
Downgrade in Storage (UFS to eMMC)
Downgrade in battery capacity.
I would take the Pro5 over the Pro6
Spot on, even worse is using the X25 that only has 4 shader cores as opposed to the 7420 that has 8.
Even worse would be using a SoC that doesn’t have support for every network in your home country and the market where the majority of your sales happen. That’s a good way to alienate customers.
It’s a bout a whole lot more than the GPU. By using the X25 over a Exnyos, Meizu can have one model for all of China. Exnyos SoC’s don’t have support for CDMA2000 networks.
What do you think is more important to Meizu (or any business), 4 more shader cores or 150 million more customers?
Like CDMA people are going to buy a phone limited to 1x 2G? pfft hahaha… turn off your fanboi and get to reality. Exynos 7420 supported CDMA LTE using a QC modem, You can’t get 4G in the US without it.
You have literally no clue what you are talking about. Your hatred for Mediatek is causing you to say some of the dumbest things possible. China Telecom, the 3rd largest carrier in the country operates on CDMA 2000. Not including support for that would cost Meizu millions of potential customers. Using an extra modem means paying more money. Smart business don’t pay more money when they don’t have to.
Meizu isn’t officially sold in the US, their main market and about 85% of their sales come from China. Turn off your blind hatred for Mediatek and “get to reality”.
How would they wow their fans with a MX6?
Pro 6 is the higher-end line of them both.
So if there is an MX 6 the specs will be not as good as the Pro 6 ?
Exactly.
The MX line is below the Pro line.
I don’t see what they could with an MX6 as far as SoC goes. X20 is pretty much the same as X25. P10 is being used in the Note line. Maybe they are waiting for the P20?
The way things are going I think i’ll be getting the Mi 5 Pro unless someone can convince me to go for something else.
I just can’t get past that design of the Mi5. I owned every Mi(#) phone dating back to the 2s but this one is a complete letdown imo.
Hopefully they will bring back the Mi 3 design in future models, I really liked that.
What do you think about the Zuk Z2 Pro coming on April 21st ?
I am cautiously excited for it. I liked the first one a lot but felt it needed a few improvements (like any brand new phone launch).
