Meizu Pro 6 Edge due in the 2nd half of the year

Meizu are to join Samsung, Vivo and Blackberry with a curved display phone of their very own due in the 2nd half of this year.

Curved displays (like higher quality audio, and dual camera lenses) are features that we expect to see more of on phone in the coming months. China has already had its first curved phone in the form of the Vivo Xplay 5, but Huawei, Xiaomi and Meizu are rumoured to be not far off launching similar flagships.

Gizchina News of the week

Meizu bosses have already discussed a few details of the phone including that the name might be the Meizu Pro 6 Edge (although Meizu Pro 7 hasn’t been taken off the cards), that it will run Flyme 6, cost more than 3000 Yuan and likely launch in the 2nd half of the year.

The rest of the details are still up in the air including what processor might be used (a Samsung Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820 are the fore runners). but what we are sure of is that the image above is nothing more than a Photoshopped Xplay 5.

Is a curved display a feature you want on your next Chinese smartphone?

Exnyos maybe, SD820 most likely not.

I would bet money it won’t be a Snapdragon 820. It will either be the Samsung Exnyos or the Helio X25 used in the Pro 6 and depending on the release date maybe the X30.

Interestingly enough, a post over on Gizmochina says we’ll be seeing an Exynos 8890 variant of the ZUK Z2. Whilst I worry based on the renders that the camera on this Z2 variant might not be as feature packed as the Z2 Pro was, it could still make a really compelling device. ZUK just need to make sure the software side doesn’t let it down. How strange it could be to have an Exynos powered Chinese flagship in the market… and it isn’t Meizu.

Can someone explain why a phone should have curved display ? Is there any reason at all ?

Esthetics are reason enough for those who like it. Example: look at sales of the S7 edge.

Yup. I thought there was some “functional” reason I was unaware of
