New brand Colawe have a question that they hope that readers can help them with, and it’s all about spec.

At the present moment Colawe have confirmed that their Rio W550 smartphone will get a 5.5-inch AMOLED display, they have also confirmed that the phone will have a 3000mAh battery, CNC alloy chassis and that the home button on the chin of the unit will feature a fingerprint scanner, but what about the rest of the hardware?

In a conversation with the company earlier today, Colawe management mentioned that they were still undecided if they should try and stick to a lower price point of $129.99 or if they should bump up hardware configurations but it reach a retail price of $149.99?

Gizchina News of the week

Colawe also let me handle one of their phones for the first time too (which I am in the process of reviewing) and I can honestly say that this isn’t your typical low-cost Chinese phone. The build quality and choice of materials is well above phones of a similar price, and that AMOLED screen and fingerprint scanner are simply stunning for the money.

Colawe feel confident that they have a decent product on their hands, but want to know if customers are happier with a high-quality build at a lower price, or if high-quality and a slightly higher price would be acceptable if it meant more RAM and a higher spec camera? The configurations they are deciding between are below.

        What will he find out?
Competition phones with similar spec cost 80$ without Amoled & Amoled tops additional 10$ top. So you ara give away as a charity to them 40$ (130-90). And for what exactly? The story doesn’t stop there, they sponsored a pool hire asking about how they could rip you off a little more extra a GB of ram cost 5$ & a still shity 13MP sensor cost additional 5$ but they want to change that additional 20$. A reality nice startup company based on the real good ethical and moral principles.
If you really want to do some charity give a donation to your favorite local charity organization instead to greedy Chinese pigs. I really want to get to know better their local communist party commissar, me by we could work out some execution.

I’m not giving money away for “charity” my friend, I’m looking to buy a device worth of my hard earned money. By the way, all electronics devices as per components used to build, are costing to the manufacturer somewhere in the area of 25-40% of the final price. If you don’t get why that’s happening, I can’t help you with that I’m afraid.
Well, your problem then it’s not with the phone itself, seems that it’s with this website in general. Also, if you’re not trusting what you’ll read here or should you hate Chinese devices in general, why do you bother to visit this website and comment here. I don’t get it ..really, I don’t.

My problem is discussing with people with out of brain. If I told charging much more than competition for similar spec I certainly ment direct competition in China.
I am hire for a long time trol.
25~40% (even Apple is over the 25%rate) rate can stand for top end top tire old global present brands certainly not for a no name cheap entry level Chinese ones.
I do hate stupid people but unfortunately don’t have solution for that. Why because every time someone like you offend my intelligence that brings the worst in me.

              October 11, 2016

You’re still not getting it. I didn’t wrote that you’re stupid or brainless or a troll or a hater or whatever. If you think it’s overpriced.. well.. good for you, it’s sorely YOUR opinion don’t generalise. I have my own opinion on the matter, we don’t have to agree. That’s all. I hereby rest my case…

            • Lazar Prodanovic
              October 11, 2016

It certainly sounded like you did so you should work on your semantics.
We don’t have to agree that much is certain. I don’t base my opinion on doxa nor plain speculations always try to stay on track with facts.
              Now the competition:
              https://www.gizchina.com/2016/10/06/top-10-smartphones-under-100/
The list is actually quite larger than that, actually there are much better phones & from Known Chinese brands for a $130 price tag like Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro in its basic configuration (2/16).
              Secondly the Amoled price difference:
              http://www.androidheadlines.com/2016/03/amoled-displays-become-cheaper-make-lcd-panels.html
Now this is very discuss able. I did give a generous price difference of 10$ that is more than enough for the profit.
At the end the peace of shit called W550:
              http://www.colawe.com/product/detail/86.html

If you still don’t get it yet probably never will.

              October 11, 2016

We’re debating on a device which was not released yet and it might never will be. As for me, I will wait for Anti’s review and then if it will go on sale, I’ll check what those who bought it feel about it. If it has a crap chip-set like the MT6735P or even worse something like the MT6580, nobody will care much and will never be sold anywhere outside (some) Asian countries ..

When someone send you URL’s it’s at least expected that you take a look at them!

It’s pretty much certain that they will use Mt6737 SoC & a regular (not P or T variant). This way phone is pretty much already developed.

Their (Lewi) is trying to target western buyers with this one, they even put an English only site for it. Lol look at the URL’s!

I would be fine with 2GB of RAM,
but the better 13MP camera is a must! 😉
Maybe that would make it in the middle… $139? 😛

How do u know the 13mp camera is better? They haven’t released the sensor/optics information for us to make an educated guess.

  10. Rob
    October 11, 2016

Not sure the extra ram and higher mp camera is worth the extra $20. No mention of sensors or if the higher mp sensor has better optics. Also what cpu is it using? Lastly the amoled screen is enough for me to lose interest, hate them.

    • Assefa Hanson
      October 11, 2016

optics dont seem to be an issue, its really the software is the worry, yow rob ive been thinking of going the 6 life with phone screens and in doing so i started to suffer lol good 6 phones are virtually non existent or too expensive but i see the ramos mos1 max going for 150 dollars sadly no reviews exist

      • Rob
        October 11, 2016

I was eyeing up the Ramos but decided to go with the slightly more expensive pptv which I now regret. The Ramos for $120 has to be worth a shot, gonna try and send this one back and go for the Ramos, hopwfully next year we will see more great large phones. BTW the large screen real estate is brilliant for gaming and videos, hardly touch my tablet now!

        • Assefa Hanson
          October 11, 2016

thats why ive been reconsidering i play games extremely hard but rob you seem quite on the hunt as well with smartphones

        • Steve B
          October 12, 2016

I have the both and the Ramos is the better buy. The PPTV is lovely, but screen is overkill and battery life an issue. Probably great if you’re a gamer, hence I’m giving it to my son.
Ramos might actually be too big for some, but screen is nice, performance fine and battery life great. Camera also probably just pips the PPTV, but both seem fairly decent. Issues with the the Ramos are; it seems to think it’s a TSD Octa AO520P (completely different phone), no apparent OTA update ability, large size causes camera shake, position of lens awkward, easy to cover. But it’s still a really useful tool so I’m keeping that one.

          • Rob
            October 12, 2016

Thanks for the heads up. I like the pptv as the screen is stunning. Battery life is average but the biggest problems in facing is the shocking wifi and 3G reception, no use as a phone as I hardly get a usable signal.

            • Steve B
              October 12, 2016

That’s interesting. I must admit I didn’t notice any wifi issues when I was playing with the phone last week. I tried it at home and a few hotspots as I was uploading sample images to the Gizchina Core page on FB, all seemed fine. 3G though I haven’t tried, I will get my son to report after he gets it next week for his birthday.

yow rob looks like we have nother candidate what do you think of the zte axon 7 max theirs an article of it on gsmarena

          • Rob
            October 14, 2016

No thanks decidedly lower mid range and will be expensive if other axon models are anything to go by. I’m actually more interested in the opportunity plus, should have more powerful cpu and probably cheaper and that’s saying something!

            • Assefa Hanson
              October 14, 2016

hmm funny enough i think the axon 7 max will be cheaper than the oppo r9plus IF! they follow in the steps of the decently priced axon 7, but the r9plus is looking far more premium

            • Rob
              October 14, 2016

Well not sure where you got that idea from, the axon 7 is more expensive than the oppo. Either way neither are going to be cheap unfortunately.

            • Assefa Hanson
              October 14, 2016

wait are we talking about the oppo r9 plus or the r9s plus

            • Rob
              October 14, 2016

The r9s plus, no point going for the old model as they never come down in price so might as well get the latest and greatest!

I wish someone made a phone with true stock android, no forcing bloatware on our throats. with a decent 8MP camera. and cheap.
I am willing to sacrifice metal build , 2.5D superamoled wonder. willing to take 2/32GB good enough to run my 10 apps I need.
wiiling to settle on 3000mah will last or can charge midday for 30 mins.
just BRING ME clean android and a good camera. plastic material. dont care will buy a case anyway.
all manufacturers just copy a trend and we have 1000s of models to choose with same problems.

This phone is very expensive, because it’s possible that it will be another crap device, from a Chinese brand (with stupid name) that no one knows, full of software bugs and no updates.. .

What is the CPU though? I guess it will be an MTK6737 or an MTK6753… Not good. But if Colawe decides to be a serious company with serious support, maybe this price is not so bad…
