Are you willing to spend up to $835 for the Mi Mix?

Later this week the 2nd sales of the Xiaomi Mi Mix will begin but already Chinese scalpers have been buying the phones up and upping the prices!

The Xiaomi Mi Mix is the first time a smartphone brand has released a concept phone for customers to buy and it has already proved to be very popular! The first Xiaomi Mi Mix sale sold out in just 10 seconds, and now every new phone that is launched is immediately compared to the 18k gold boasting phone!

Xiaomi will have its 2nd flash sale for the Xiaomi Mi Mix Concept phone this week and already Chinese scalpers are capitalising on the popularity of the phone by buying up stock and selling them on.

Xiaomi Mi Mix

Gizchina News of the week

Prices in Huatianbei in Shenzhen (the Chinese smartphone capital) have raised to an incredible 5020 Yuan ($737) for the entry-level 4GB RAM version of the phone, that’s an increase of 1520 Yuan ($223) which is a hefty markup!

Online resellers are also promoting the phone too, but their prices are a little more liveable.

For example popular resellers Gearbest as the 4GB RAM Xiaomi Mi Mix listed at $658.99, while the 6GB RAM version of the Mi Mix is $748.99. Further up the price range though is Everbuying who has the Xiaomi Mi Mix listed at a whopping $835!

Are you willing to pay these prices? Or are we going to see too much supply for too little demand at these prices?

Even gearbest has put 150 dollars mark up from the official price which to me is crazy. And they will ship it after one month. Everbuying price is the craziest.

I will never buy by 835 dollars. I will wait a few months till the prices come down.

Never, wouldn’t buy it at $400 with no AMOLED and cracks at the first drop.

  8. November 7, 2016

I do like this phone but for $835, never gonna buy it. I’d rather buy another SD821 powered phone with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM instead.

The price is simply … OUTRAGEOUS!!!

I wouldn’t buy this thing even at 8.35$… So ugly and overrated…

Well Matt putting aside our subjective views of beauty aside, one thing is for sure is that it is a breath of fresh air, it’s design is pretty rare for today which I think justifies it’s ratings if tomorrow we actually saw a flying big I’m sure people would be raving about it

      • MattD
        November 7, 2016

The air is fresh only when it’s something useful. A phone like that is undeniably fragile (there already reports of mi mix breaking like it’s nothing), and there’s not a single functional reason to go for such choice other than being able to tell “look, my phone’s missing the upper chin lol”. Edge screens were already useless and counterproductive, this is the same.

C’mon ! You’re like a teenager stating Scarlett Johansson isn’t a beauty because he’s never be able to get in bed with her ^^

        November 8, 2016

So you’re taking for granted I’ve never been in bed with Scarly?! (she likes me to call her like that, it’s a thing between us v.v)

BS aside, I think it was a given fact that it was my personal opinion, I’m not saying nobody should buy it… It’s also a given fact that this design choice has some issue, but that’s something everyone is free to live with (you know, there is no perfect phone out there, so everyone makes some compromises when buying: it’s a compromise I’ll never make, but I’m no boss deciding for everyone else ?)

        • NextHype
          November 8, 2016

For sure this design has some issue, but I can’t believe you truely think Mi Mix is “so ugly” xD

BTW, since you’ve been in bed with Scarly too, we should call it a draw !

            November 8, 2016

I swear, I don’t like it at all! Must be something about the lacking of symmetry or something… I may like the presence of a big screen in a reduced space, but after all I’m one of those thinking “if I pick up a 6.44″ phone, I don’t expect it to be small”, so not even this make up in my taste for the overall design…

Hey, you too with Scarlet? We’re bros then! ?

All those fire sale are mostly bullshit as majority of the stock will go to those china reseller.
    Easy money for them.

I don’t think it will be ever widely available especially outside China so its price is irrelevant. However, should one wants to buy it really, really badly (if it’s available), will happily pay the asked price, whatever that is at the time. I do like the device, as a concept, but I really don’t feel like doing beta testing for Xiaomi. Not for THAT price, at least.

    • Raky_b
      November 7, 2016

Why not, all xiaomi buyers are beta testers… Every device is coming with terrible SW, so we al need to help fix it

      • Alex
        November 7, 2016

Agreed, I’m one of them as well 😉 But, as wrote above I’m willing to do that for a $200 costing device, not a $800 one..hell no.

  12. November 7, 2016

No, I wouldn’t spend that much for any phone, but they I wouldn’t want such a large phone anyway. Even if it were smaller though, I like a bit of bezel for ease of grip.

Is the Mi Mix worth buying?
I happened to be in China right now and thinking of buying a new phone (I broke the screen of my Mi4, haven’t replaced yet). Mi Mix looks absolutely stunning, but being the first of its kind I’m afraid it might have some flaws. What do u guys think? If you had an opportunity to buy one, would you?

    • Alex
      November 7, 2016

You wrote it your self, it’s the first of it’s kind, unknown territory. ALL of it’s owners will be in a sense, beta testers. If you’re ok with that and most importantly you want to spend that amount of money, go for it.

    • MattD
      November 7, 2016

Watch reviews of sharp aquos crystal 1 and 2, they’re based on the same design. Also, I already heard rants of how the phone is extremely fragile (“who would have guessed?! A phone with absolutely no protection is fragile now?!”) but you have to judge for yourself

$835 is ridiculous but it certainly is the most cutting edge(no pun intended) phone this year without a doubt. WIth the note 7 and its retina ID defunct, this bezelless ceramic phone with ultrasonic tech is the most advanced smartphone for 2016. Annoying that they are only selling them in china with limited LTE frequencies.

    • Karly Johnston
      November 8, 2016

Xiaomi will never be big internationally until they open LTE support.

I can’t understand people that say the price is crazy of you have a low supply you increase the demand and the price goes up so much of us here have lived for so many years and have seen this happen time and time again and are still surprised!!? Business 101 why do you think gold is expensive and diamonds?

This where I am thankful that I am doing business with someone in China. I know a man very well that he is doing to do a little favour to me haha
He knows a guy that works in Xiaomi and you know? He got the fucking Mi Mix 256GB version for only 600USD. Super happy haha
I’d say it is worth it for sure “at that price”

I’m never buying another Xiaomi device until they get their software development in order. There is no reason why my Redmi Note 3 Pro is still running Android 5.1.1 and yet my older LeEco Le 1S was recently updated to Android 6.0 and running flawlessly compared to the buggy OS on the Redmi.

This alone led me to purchase the Le Pro 3 over the Mi 5S Plus. Which as of this writing is performance excellently while blazing though benchmarks. ?

    • Oyabun
      November 7, 2016

Redmi Note 3 Pro is at Android 6.0, see the table at the Xiaomi forums.
      https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-11-3.35941/
Furthermore all MIUI builds, regardless of Anrdoid version, are always fully patched against known vulnerabilities. (latest patch version).

      • LastoftheBrunnen_G
        November 7, 2016

As of this writing the Redmi Note 3 Pro international version does not have Android 6.0 available via OTA , the only way to update your OS is to do so manually which is a hassle beyond the expertise of most average users.

In fact my phone has not received any sort of patch since July. This is a very common thing with Xiaomi as the only seem to care about pushing out their “next flagship” every 3 months or so.

hey lastofthe, i own the redmi note 3 Pro international and the 6.0.1 is avaible on ota since long time.
In your updater settings disable “update on wifi only” to get updates while on 4g..

          http://en.miui.com/download-301.html#449
you see miui 8.0.4.0 stable is using 6.01
Dev roms are updated weekly, i use thoses.

Chinese made phones and OTA it’s a sad story. Was, and will still be for a long time. Apart of that, nowadays flashing a phone with a new ROM it’s not exactly rocket science, there are everywhere to be found step-by-step guides and for the most part the procedure is automated. Not wishing to get “hassled” updating your phone manually, it’s an entirely another issue.

          November 9, 2016

Are you sure you have the official Rom from Xiaomi and not some vendor rom? My Note 3 just got an update OTA yesterday. Its at version 8.0.6 I believe (dont have the phone with me right now)

Instead of buying the crappy iPhones again, at least spend your money to a company that it’s worth it…

P.S. Any price over $400 for a phone, is just ridiculous.

    • Alex
      November 8, 2016

..a geia sto stoma sou mitso. $800 it’s way over ridiculous, I’m thinking they’re just kinda “testing” the market to see if (and how) they may enter the premium segment. Well, good luck Xiaomi on that.

    November 8, 2016

That’s way too expensive for a Xiaomi device. If Vivo, Oppo or Huawei was selling it, I could be in but Xiaomi… better waiting for user’s experience and the second iteration of the phone as this kind of product has never been their core business.
