Launched: Dual camera Micromax Dual 5 with SD652

India’s Micromax, once a hotly-discussed company even on GizChina, went into limbo sometime around a year back. What the company did during that time still remains a mystery, but what they’ve come out for now is the Dual 5 smartphone.

The Dual 5 is a phone that you’d not expect from a company like Micromax. Reasons — a. Micromax were known best for their cheap, VFM phones, b. a dual camera phone from a company of Micromax caliber is, well, unexpected.

Let’s dig into the spec sheet.

Micromax Dual 5 Specifications

  • 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p display
  • Snapdragon 652 SoC
  • 4GB RAM
  • 128GB ROM
  • Dual 13 mega-pixel cameras on the rear
  • 13 mega-pixel front facing camera
  • 3200mAh battery
  • Fingerprint scanner

As you can see from the specifications, they’re something between mid-range and high-end.

However, looking closely (h/t: Phone Radar), you’ll realise that the Dual 5 bears an uncanny resemblance to another Chinese phone — the Qiku 360 Q5. It does seem like the Micromax Dual 5 is a rebranded Qiku 360 Q5.

Coming back to the Dual 5, it’s announced in India for 24,999 INR ($383). It’s unlikely that the Dual 5 will find many buyers, especially with competition like the OnePlus 3t lurking in a budget range that’s not too far off.

good but too expensive. They’d have more chances of making money in the 250$ price range

Well if that other phone really costs half the price, then this one might effectively cost double of it

why does it need to cost double; just because they use 128 gb of internal memory and an amoled display.
