Essential Phone To Get Android Oreo & More In Some Weeks

Essential Phone seems quite confident in the upgrade it recently brought to Andy Rubin’s first post-Google creation. It recently opened the floor for questions on Reddit where some very vital information was made public.

The Essential team had the following to say about Android Oreo and the Essential Phone

“…our QA team is in the process of testing Android Oreo as we speak to insure there are no regressions on the device. We are making great progress and target to have public beta available here within several weeks that you can try out before we release globally. We will make sure to publicly announce as soon as the Beta is available”

Essential also revealed that night mode and fingerprint gestures were the most requested features in this device and both features will be part of the Oreo update. Its words

Gizchina News of the week

“[Night mode] depends on HWC2 which wasn’t ready for this chipset in the N timeframe. Good news though, you’ll have it in O (I love this feature too!) [Fingerprint gestures are] in progress but didn’t make it into today’s OTA. We’re targeting the next one.”

Other pieces of information which are worth mentioning is that Essential Phone will soon have other colour variants. Pure White, Ocean Depths and Stellar Grey are all in line for production but the Pure White variant will come sooner than the rest. Also, an update will be released to tackle the Essential Phone’s “jumpy” touchscreen. The release of this update is imminent and an Essential employee described the difference before and after the update as “night and day.” It appears that the Essential Phone was released in a hurry because every update impacts significantly on the phone’s performance. Perhaps, if the Essential Team had taken more time, this smartphone wouldn’t need these updates so soon.
