Vivo Y79, a slightly upgraded V7+, launched with FullView display and a 24 MP selfie shooter

Vivo Y79

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has launched a new mid-range handset in its Y series labelled Vivo Y79 in China. Now we don’t want to spoil the fun, but this is essentially a rebrander Vivo V7+ with some extra firepower under its belt. If you do follow Vivo, you’d know by glancing at the design of the phone, that it is indeed quite reminiscent of the V7+ with FullView display launched recently in India.

The highlight of the Vivo Y79 is, quite obviously, what Vivo likes to call the FullView display. In other words a thin bezel display with the trending 18:9 aspect ratio. Another highlighted feature of the phone is the 24 MP Moonlight selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture. The “Moonlight” wording signifies better selfies in low light assisted by a soft LED flash.

In terms of build quality, you are looking at pretty much the same thing as the Vivo V7+. It has a metal unibody design with slightly curved edges at the rear. Needless to say, the fingerprint reader is also at the back to accommodate the bigger display panel.

Speaking about the display, it is a 5.99-inch HD+ FullView display achieving a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. If you talk about exact screen to body ratio it is 84.4%. At the heart of the phone is the Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2.0 GHz. Also, this is an upgrade against the V7+ which has a Snapdragon 430 SoC. The processor is assisted by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage. Moreover, the handset’s power needs will be taken care of by the 3,325 mAh battery encased in the chassis.
