Elephone U & Elephone U Pro – Different CPUs Confirmed and More

Elephone U Pro

Elephone finally made really clear what differentiates the Elephone U and Elephone U Pro. Which to our surprise seem to be only two elements, eager to know which? Keep reading!

Elephone U Pro

So, in their latest press release Elephone revealed that the two smartphones will pack different CPUs – something we already knew. What’s been confirmed is that we’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor on the higher end Elephone U Pro, meanwhile the non-pro U is getting a MediaTek Helio P23 CPU.

Elephone say they went with the MediaTek CPU on the plan variant to lower price and make it more affordable for the masses, so that everybody can enjoy the beautifully crafted phone with its curved AMOLED display.

Other than the SoC, the other main difference will be in the material used for both phones. While they will both be built with aluminum frames, Elephone states that their physical characteristics aren’t quite the same. This means we’ll probably find a more premium aluminum alloy on the U Pro.

Elephone also confirmed that both phones will sport the same exact curved AMOLED display and the same dual camera setup on the back powered by Arcsoft. What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments below!

Now im getting really worried about the price. I wonder how much truth is on gearbest Ulephone U page when it comes to descryption, and will it really sell for around 400$ for cheapest version ? I hope not, its too much even for Snapdragon 660.

Well with Amoled 400$ could be close to realistic for better Snapdragon variant…

This will put a light to people to let them understand why lower tier brands don’t use Snapdragon socs they don’t have bulk deals to keep the price down

Snapdragon 660 isn’t the problem… The fact is right now you can get a Mi Note 2 with SND 821 and AMOLED for around 300. Most of the 660 phones released last year run around 300-350. There are a couple of exceptions such as the Oppo R11s Plus and Vivo X20 Plus which are essentially the same phone. They had bigger AMOLED screens, better cameras, better design…etc. But hey. The only bad phone is the one that people don’t buy. If people by the U Pro, then they will keep making them.

Pentile display tho on that Mi Note 2…
            Don’t forget the Zuk Z2 for $150-180!

              January 18, 2018

Nothing. The Mi Note 2 uses a Samsung curved AMOLED screen. All the issues with it are the same issues with other AMOLED screens. Screen burn in and viewing angles. But you expect that as a trade off for the screen itself.

is that bad for the user ?

as in does it cause headaches or affect user eyesight?

It’s bad for battery at the end as you need to increase pixel density per inch to achieve good quality for the human eye sight. So FHD Amoled is good enough for up to 5.2″ traditional 16:9 display while LCD in FHD is good enough up to 6.5″. So if you go with a QHD Amoled display over 5.2″ against FHD LCD the Amoled one will actually use more power because more pixels to drive & amount gets even more significant when you count in pore GPU.

            • January 19, 2018

No it doesn’t but purchasing decisions are made based on what a user sees, and some people will dislike Pentile vs non

It’s 33% cut on pixel count but on Amoled actually that matrix produces sharper look then RGB.

It’s not always a little money though it varies. Sometimes can be $30 more, sometimes $80 more dpeending on sales

I know & they are small so operating costs & cost of parts is actually bigger so they can’t achieve pricing as let’s say Xiaomi… But seriously who in right state of mind would spill 400$ for a phone from utterly irresponsible regarding software company as this one? All do Snapdragon with CAF and costume ROM development dues make at least some sense…

Hopefully the Elephone U will be within the affordable range with glass protection and good battery and fast charge. A good front camera with dual camera and led flash is a must because Huawei has already done a marvellous job with Honor 9 lite. U pro at $400 will be too much. So there must be some sensitisation from Elephone.

To much expensive… You can found a Xiaomi MI 3 Note 150$$$$$$ less
And the Mi 3 have the same or superior hardware and the best camera that i can see.
I don’t know if I will pay 150$ more just for the edge corners
