Moto E5 Plus with massive 5,000mAh battery and 6-inch screen announced

Moto E5

The rumor mill had already churned out series of renders of the Moto E5 and E5 Plus, so we know the launch was imminent, but we never really expected them to debut at the Moto G6 series launch event in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Motorola is offering the E5 series in three variants – the Moto E5 Plus, Moto E5, and Moto E5 Play all of which share similar design and philosophy with the Moto G6 line. Unlike the G6 series, the E5 series have their fingerprint sensor located on the back embedded into the Motorola batwing logo.

Moto E5 Plus

Much like the Moto G6 series, the Moto E5 plus is the most premium of the trio, and unlike the Moto E4 plus with a 5.5-inches display, the new Moto E5 plus flaunts a  6-inches Moto Display for at-a-glance info and quick replies to notifications, and with 720 x 1,440px resolution. The device uses the  Snapdragon 435 processor paired up with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

At the rear, the Moto E5 plus gets a single 12-megapixel single-lens camera with 1.25um big pixels and laser autofocus, while a 5-megapixel front-facing camera sits above the display. The device boots Android Oreo out of the box and comes with a huge 5,000mAh battery with turbocharging which the maker claims can push 6 hours worth of charge into the battery in just 15 minutes. The fully charged battery is expected to give you up to  1.5 days of use.

The Moto E5 display size scales down to a 5.7” (720p+) screen – with the same 18:9 aspect ratio and is powered by the same Snapdragon 425 chipset coupled with 2GB or 3GB of RAM, and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage depending on the region. Again, the Moto E5 battery scales down to a 4,000mAh capacity bundled with 10W brick charger and a Rapid Charge.

The E5 comes fitted with a 13 MP rear camera with 1.12 µm, f/2.0, 1080p video capture and a 5 MP selfie camera with LED flash.

Moto E5 Play

Powered by the Snapdragon 425/Snapdragon 427 coupled with  2GB  of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, the Moto E5 play packs an 8MP f/2.0 rear sensor, a 5MP front-facing sensor, a 2,800mAh battery with a 10W charger all encased in a polycarbonate body with a removable rear cover and a compact 5.2” HD display.

The Moto E5 Plus and the base Moto E5 will be available later in May in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America for €169 and €149 in that order, while the Moto E5 Play will be exclusive to North America.
