Amidst the increasing news of the arrival of the Oneplus 6T, Chinese Smartphone maker – OnePlus earlier today dropped the hint that suggests it could be towing a different path other than the smartphone market in the coming year. The company popularly known for its killer smartphones brand has announced its decision to venture into the smart TV market.
No, the company isn’t abandoning its Smartphone business, instead, it will in 2019 create a TV division to be headed by its Founder & CEO Pete Lau.
As per a post on the Oneplus forum, the company first major product outside the smartphones lineup will be named OnePlus TV and with that, Oneplus says it intends to bring “the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity”. The upcoming Oneplus TV will is currently in development and will debut in 2019 adopting the flagship design, image quality, and audio experience.
Oneplus hasn’t revealed details of the TV, but it does say the OnePlus TV will come with a host of artificially intelligent features including a virtual assistant, a built-in camera as well as a “seamless connectivity” for your phone.
We are not sure when exactly the TV will be released, but there is an indication it will be at the start of 2019, and as for availability, that might be restricted to the Indian, the Chinese, and probably a few other markets in the middle east. OnePlus is also expected to be smart in its pricing, at least to stand a chance in the market already flooded by TVs from LG, Samsung, Xiaomi, and many more.
