Xiaomi Mi A3 already in works, reveals leak

The Rumor mill has already spun out several leaks and news about a couple of unannounced Xiaomi phones, the latest being the Mi 7 and a foldable phone that just surfaced in a hands-on video, it appears however that the Chinese phone maker has a few other phones in that could become official in the coming months.

Although it been only about 6 months the firm updated its Android One Mi series with the launch of the Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 lite, indications have just emerged that work on a successor to the Mi A2 might already be undergoing test.

Gizchina News of the week

Expected to be dubbed the Xiaomi Mi A3, the guys at XDA developers have found the first evidence that points to its existence. The XDA developers team found the code-name orchid_sprout within the Android Pie-based user interface for the Mi 8 and Mi Mix 3 flagships. And what is the link with the Xiaomi Mi A3? Well, for the uninformed, Xiaomi’s first generation Android One Smartphone – the Mi A1 and the second edition – the Mi A2 and Mi A2 lite had similar codenames – tissot_sprout, jasmine_sprout, and daisy_sprout respectively.

While the firmware doesn’t reveal any major details of the purported Mi A3, it does hint that it will support an NFC chip from NXP, a first for the firm if that pans out. It is too early to predict anything at this point, given that the said device might not arrive until mid-year.
