China gets closer to 5G as China Mobile launches its first 5G terminal


Yesterday, China Mobile was in a conference with the theme ā€œSmart Connect and Brighten the Futureā€. The carrier which is one of the major carriers in China displayed the latest technologies, products and 5G development around 5G technology, Internet of Things (IoT), digital home, international business, terminal, and other fields. It also revealed its first self-owned 5G terminal.

It is understood that “First Walker One” is China Mobile’s first self-owned 5G test terminal product. It is equipped with Qualcomm’s new generation Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and the world’s first 5G modem, Snapdragon X50. It supports 5G multiple frequency bands which achieves a peak downlink rate of up to 2Gbps, uplinkĀ  of1Gbps, and a delay as low as 20ms. This will be used for a variety of application scenarios, including individuals, Home and industry applications.

“First Walker One” comes with Gigabit Ethernet port, USB Type-C, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, WiGig, etc., providing various 5G access services through various interfaces.Ā According to China Mobile official, in 2019, the 2.6GHz and 4.9GHz end-to-end scale tests will be conducted in five cities including Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Wuhan and Shanghai.Ā At the same time, it will actively carry out research and development and testing of smart networks. In 2020, China Mobile will have the capability of large-scale commercial use of 5G, and simultaneously realize the application of smart networks.Ā By the end of 2018, China Mobile’s home broadband users exceeded 150 million, and the number of family-friendly APP users exceeded 66 million.
