OPPO granted ‘Shark Fin’ Trademark, possibly for the Reno’s Pop-up Camera

OPPO will be revealing a new series of smartphones in the coming days, and it’s likely doing so with the release of multiple variants of the same device – the OPPO Reno. The OPPO Reno as we believed the upcoming series will be named is expected to come with several unique features including a triple-rear camera setup, with 48MP Sony IMX586 and the periscope 10x lossless zoom technology, top of the range SD 855 SoC as well as a unique pop-up selfie camera setup.

The unique pop-up selfie camera setup is by far tipped to be one of the most exciting features of the device, and that perhaps explains why the company’s VP hasn’t included that in his series of leaks, although we managed to get hold of some leaked images and video renders that leaked the pop-up system in its entirety, even though those involved were decisively dealt with.

Gizchina News of the week

Now, ahead of the April 10 launch date, OPPO has been granted patent approval for what might be its marketing name for the OPPO Reno pop-up camera system. The firm has been granted patent approval for the terms “Shark Fin” and “3D-Lut” by the EUIPO European Union Intellectual Property Office.

Although details are currently available, the term is most likely a marketing term for the Reno Shark’s fin-like pop-up camera that opens diagonally, with the right side of the sliding module being positioned higher than the left, in a slope-like manner, unlike the conventional pop-up system that has all of it fully elevated.

We tried reaching out to the Chinese smartphone maker for confirmation, but hasn’t replied to our request. We should get to know more about the “Shark Fin” and “3D-Lut” monikers in the days to come. In the meantime, you can get to read all the leaked detail about the OPPO Reno here, while we await official confirmation.
