Lin Bin: 100MP camera is not far away

As earlier announced, Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, held the Xiaomi Future Image Technology Communication conference in Beijing. At the conference, the company gave details about the upcoming 64MP camera which happens to be a Samsung sensor. However, the closing statements of Xiaomi president, Lin Bin, caught the attention of many. In addition to the 64Mp sensor announcement, Lin Bin said that the 100MP camera is not far away.

He gave some details of this sensor. First of all, the sensor is also from South Korean manufacturing giant, Samsung. Furthermore, Lin Bin mentioned that the pixel size is specifically 108MP and the resolution is 12032 x 9024. Lin Bin said that Xiaomi will also launch the camera although he did not mention any specific time.

Zeiss take on more megapixels

Recall that a leading manufacturer of smartphone camera, Zeiss, recently said that the race for megapixels on a smartphone camera is absurd.  According to Michael Kaschke (CEO of Zeiss), as long as the photographic sensors for smartphones will be so small, mobile photography will never be able to circumvent some of the limits that have always distinguished it and increasing the number of megapixels is not the right solution in this regard, but rather a further obstacle. In fact, the higher the resolution of the sensor, the smaller the individual pixels. Thus, it is more difficult to illuminate them adequately. According to Kaschke, 40MP is more than necessary for a smartphone camera, let alone the 64MP and now 100MP. Therefore increasing this value further would not bring any benefit, but only problems.

I need a smartphone with camera, not a camera with a smartphone.
