Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, temporarily opened its new headquarters, Xiaomi Science and Technology Park for the Redmi Note 8 series conference. The employees are said to be able to move in completely in September. This is also the first time that Xiaomi held a press conference on the new campus. The conference venue is Xiaomi’s basketball hall. At the commencement of the conference, Xiaomi reminded us that the Redmi Note 8 series has not been released but it already has over 2 million bookings.
Lu Weibing, general manager of the Redmi brand is at the hub of the launch event. Redmi will release a couple of devices including a TV and a notebook. However, the conference started with the launch of the Note 8. According to the company, the Redmi Note 8 series serves to popularize the quad-camera setup for high-end smartphones.
The Redmi Note 8 uses a 6.3-inch full-screen display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080. In comparison with the Note 7, the screen ratio increased from 86% to 90%. The Note 8 also comes with a narrower chin and a low-blue Blu-ray certification. In addition, this smartphone features a dual 2.5D Corning’s fifth-generation gorilla. This means that the glass in front and the rear are highly resistant to physical damage. Furthermore, this smartphone uses a four-corner protection design which protects it from splash and other light fluid actions. The Redmi Note 8 will be available in three colors: ochre black, white moon, dream blue.
In the camera department, the Note 8 uses a quad-rear camera setup. The main sensor is a 48MP camera and it is supported by an 8MP super wide-angle, 2MP depth of field and 2MP super macro sensors. Upfront, this smartphone has a 13MP shooter for selfies and it supports AI beauty.
Looking at the hardware, the Note 8 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor. This chip is an AI upgrade version of Snapdragon 660. The lights of this smartphone are kept on by a decent 4000 mAh battery which supports 18W fast charge. In addition, we also have a standard with 18W charger in the box.
There are other interesting features of the Note 8. While many smartphones are expunging the 3.5mm headphone jack, the Redmi Note 8 retains this feature. In addition, it comes with USB Type-C and the earpiece uses the 0810 high power receiver for the first time. This gives the device 40% more volume.
The speakers have also been upgraded to improve loudness and tri-band sound quality with a 60% increase in external low frequency. The speaker dust screen includes a Nano Mesh double-layer dust-proof process for the first time. It also has a hidden skill – the speaker sonic dedusting.
As for the pricing, the Redmi Note 8 comes in three versions. While the 4GB+64GB version sells for 999 yuan ($140), the 6GB+64GB version and 6GB+128GB versions sell 1199 yuan ($168) and 1399 yuan ($196) respectively. The Redmi Note 8 Pro release is NEXT…
