The Samsung Galaxy Fold has probably been the most controversial phone of this 2019. After its presentation in February, we had very high expectations for this device that would go on sale in April. On the date indicated, the problems began with the first test units, design flaws that caused the device to break within a few hours (or minutes) of use. Which is weird for a phone whose price is above two thousand dollars. Despite these problems, since its final arrival in the market in October, Samsung has sold more Galaxy Fold units than Sony sales in general.
Sony is not going through its best moments in the smartphone market and that shows with the little variety of models we have of the brand. Currently, we have two high-end phones, the Sony Xperia 1 and the Xperia 5 and two mid-range phones, the Xperia 10 and the Xperia 10 Plus. But, none of these phones has achiegmved the expected sales.

As reported in ProAndroid, Samsung has sold 1 million units of its foldable phone, the Samsung Galaxy Fold. One million units for a device that is far from the maximum price of any other current high-end phone, since it is the price to pay for folding technology. Given that this device has been available for purchase for less than three months and its very high price, it can be said that it has been a total success.
To give us an idea, Sony in the second quarter of the year sold 900,000 units of smartphones, regardless of the model. In the case of the third quarter, sales fell to 600,000 units sold. Therefore, we can say that in a period of three months, Samsung has sold more Galaxy Fold units than Sony with all its current catalog.
Folding technology is the future and this has been demonstrated by this phone and the Motorola Razr. Now we are waiting for the renewal of this Samsung Galaxy Fold, because if the rumors are true, it will have another form factor and its price will be much more attractive, so sales will probably increase compared to this first version. On the other hand, we hope that Sony can begin to recover in sales with its next smartphones.
