Oppo Reno 4 (Global) goes official with Snapdragon 720G

After many leaks and reports, Oppo finally unveiled the Global variant of its Oppo Reno 4 smartphone. Currently, the phone is available for pre-orders in Thailand, but we expect it to reach more countries pretty soon. The first entry in the Reno 4 series brought a Snapdragon 720G chipset to the West. That’s not a big deal for those who were waiting for a 5G-enabled smartphone. However, the company believes that this is the best strategy for markets where 5G networks aren’t ready. Apart from the chipset, we have a smartphone that looks like its Chinese counterpart. However, camera alignment is a little bit different.

Oppo Reno 4 (Global) specifications

Under the hood, we have the aforementioned Snapdragon 720G chipset. It’s an Octa-Core chipset with a 2.3GHz clock made with the 7nm process. It’s not on par with the Snapdragon 765G the Chinese variant has, but it’s quite enough for a good mid-range performance. The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. Interestingly enough, the phone ships with a dual nano-SIM slot plus another slot for a microSD card. You can expand the memory and use two SIM cards at the same time.

The Reno 4 flaunts a 6.4-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and a dual-punch hole solution housing a 32MP selfie snapper. While the secondary sensor isn’t listed by the retailer, we probably have the 2MP depth sensor here. It’s a minimalistic display with small bezels and a bigger chin. Moving around to the back, we have a Quad-Camera setup sitting on a rectangular island. We have a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide angle module, and two 2MP sensors. Interestingly enough, the company has replaced the laser AF found in the Chinese variant with a regular 2MP depth cam. The Chinese variant has a Triple-Camera array plus a Laser AF module.

The Oppo Reno 4 draws power from a 4,015mAh battery. The icing on the cake of this battery is that it comes with the VOOC 4.0 fast-charging system which outputs 30W through the USB-C port. Another interesting fact is that the Oppo Reno 4 is complete with a 3.5mm audio hack sitting on the bottom left side. To everyone’s surprise, the company has included actual earphones in the retail package.

Pricing and Availability

The Reno 4 is already available for pre-order. However, actual sales are set to start only the next week August 5. Customers can choose between the Galactic Blue and Space Black color options. In Thailand, the phone sells for THB 11,990. This is just around $385 or €325. The company is giving some free gifts for those pre-order the phone. This goes from a JBL Speaker to an Oppo Speaker. The company is also offering Backpack and Marshal Headphones for the first buyers as well.
