Japanese manufacturing giant, Sony, will officially release the Sony PS5 at the end of the year. Over the past few months, there have been numerous speculations regarding this device. The company has officially confirmed the hardware specs of the PS5. In addition, some of the third-party games and their release dates are already public. However, there are still speculations regarding the upcoming PS5. The latest information is that Sony may launch a more powerful PS5 console that will use a multi-GPU solution. According to techsina, a new patent indicates that multi-GPU PlayStation is likely to be the PS5 Pro.
According to the report, the title of the patent is “Scalable Gaming Console CPU/GPU for Home Console and Cloud Gaming”.

The description of the patent reads
“Frame buffer management is possible by multiple GPUs rendering their own video frames or rendering separate portions of each video frame, in a multi-GPU emulation environment. One of the GPUs controls the HDMI frame output by receiving frame information from the other GPU and reading out the complete frame through the HDMI output port…Alternatively, the GPU’s outputs may be multiplexed together”.
In addition, the patent’s description also reads, “As described herein, SoC technology can be applied to video emulation consoles such as gaming consoles, and in particular, a single SoC can be provided for a ‘light’ version of the console, while multiple SoCs can be used to provide a ‘high-end’ version of the console that has greater processing and storage capacity than the ‘light’ version. ‘High-end’ systems can also contain more memory, such as random access memory (RAM) and other features, and can be used for cloud-optimized versions that use the same console chips for greater performance”.
The biggest highlight of the patent is the reference to the scalability of the GPU. The report notes that it could also eventually arrive as an upgrade kit, not a completely new product. In addition, we’ve seen a lot of Sony’s patents for gaming consoles before. However, many of these patents never become end products.
Thus, there is no direct link between this patent and the PlayStation 5. However, the timing of this patent sparks the speculation that it could be the PS5 Pro. As of now, there is no official confirmation of the existence of a PS5 Pro.
