Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, is currently working on its Huawei Mate 40 series. These smartphones will arrive with Huawei’s upcoming 5nm chip. If all goes according to plan, Huawei Kirin 5nm chip will arrive in September. In addition, the Huawei Mate 40 series will be the first smartphones to use this chip. However, HiSilicon’s Kirin chip design, chip size, and cost are not the main focus for Huawei. Presently, HiSilicon is not under any pressure to make a profit. Therefore, for products of the same level, the chip size of HiSilicon processors is generally larger than that of MediaTek and Qualcomm.

Not surprisingly, Huawei’s Mate 40 series will launch the 5nm Kirin 1020 chip. This will make this series to be the world’s first smartphone to use a 5nm chip. Since Apple’s 5G iPhones may experience some delay, it is almost certain that Huawei will be the first to use a 5nm chip.

Recent reports claim that all the chips that Huawei needs this year will be available by mid-September. This is irrespective of the manufacturing process (5nm, 7nm, or 16nm, or 28nm). Even HiSilicon’s self-developed TWS headset Bluetooth chip will be ready before mid-September. The delivery of all Huawei chips for this year is proceeding smoothly. Initially, there were reports that Huawei will postpone the mass production of its flagship Mate 40 mobile phone. However, the report has turned out to be false.

Despite the ban on Huawei by the American government, the company seems to be doing quite well. Although the U.S. will not rescind its ban on Huawei anytime soon, the company will release the Mate 40 phones with a 5nm process Kirin processor as scheduled in October. In the fourth quarter of 2020, Huawei will supply about 8 million units of the Huawei Mate 40 series. This will further boost Huawei’s performance in the smartphone market. Recall that for Q2 2020, is the top smartphone brand globally.
