Apple could launch its first touchscreen MacBook Pro as early as October 2026 leaks say. The new laptops are expected to feature OLED displays, a thinner design and Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared the latest details in his new Power On podcast.
The new MacBook Pro would come in 14-inch and 16-inch versions but, Apple has yet to confirm the laptops or their release date. Gurman says the launch could also move to November.

Apple plans a major MacBook redesign

The biggest change could be the new OLED screen so unlike current MacBook displays, it would also support touch controls. This would let users interact with macOS directly on the screen.
Apple is also reportedly working on a thinner body. The company could replace the current display notch with a Dynamic Island, something that would bring the MacBook closer to the design of recent iPhones.
The new screen could also offer deeper blacks and better contrast but Apple hasnt shared or told us any official display specifications.

M5 Pro and M5 Max could return

The redesigned laptops are expected to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These chips are already in use, Apple already uses them in its current MacBook Pro models, which launched in March 2026.
This means the new laptops should focus more on their design and display than on new processors. They could also sit above the regular MacBook Pro models in Apple's lineup.
Apple is reportedly testing the laptops with macOS 27.2. The software is still in beta, and its release is expected later in October. This could help explain why Apple is considering an October launch.
There is still no official announcement from Apple. However, the latest report points to a launch in October or November. If the reports are accurate, this could be the biggest MacBook Pro redesign in years.
