Apple looks ready to finally update the HomePod mini. New images found inside Apple's own code show the HomePod mini 2 in five colors, while also confirming that Apple is keeping the familiar design.
The leaked colors include green, pink, blue, white and black. The current model is available in yellow, orange, blue, white and midnight, so Apple is clearly changing the color range for the new version.

Same design, new colors
If you were hoping for a major redesign, there is some bad news.
The HomePod mini 2 appears to keep the same compact, round body as the original model. The leaked images found in Apple's code show a design that looks almost identical to the current speaker.
The new blue also looks slightly lighter than the current version.
Personally, I don't think the unchanged design is a problem. The HomePod mini already has a small footprint and fits easily into most rooms. What matters more is what Apple has changed inside.
A much-needed hardware upgrade
The original HomePod mini launched in 2020 and still uses Apple's S5 chip.
Apple is expected to give the new model a much newer chip, with earlier reports pointing to an S9 or newer processor. The upgrade should help with computational audio and could also support the new generation of Siri.
Apple is also rumored to add newer wireless hardware, including possible Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 support.
The company has not confirmed these specifications yet, so they should still be treated as rumors.
Siri could be the real upgrade
This is where the HomePod mini 2 could become much more interesting.
Apple has been working on a more capable Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. The new HomePod mini is expected to take advantage of these improvements, giving it more useful voice controls and smarter interaction with Apple's smart home ecosystem.
That could make the new speaker feel very different even if the hardware looks almost the same.
The HomePod mini 2 is expected to launch before the end of 2026, with October now looking like a possible window.
Apple has not confirmed its price yet. The original HomePod mini launched at $99, but Apple later raised the price to $129.
For me, the colors are nice, but Siri will be the feature that decides whether this is a real upgrade or simply a long-overdue refresh.
