International Mi 9 SE and Mi 9 Lite receive MIUI 12 stable update

MIUI 12

Xiaomi announced its brand new software skin – MIUI 12 – in late April. That’s the earliest MIUI release that we see in a couple of years. Since its big reveal, the company has been in a roll to ensure that all of its devices will be running the cutting-edge software until the end of 2020. After rolling out the update for the most recent devices, the company is now ensuring that old smartphones will also be able to receive it soon.

In China, the company is currently rolling out MIUI 12 for some 2018 smartphones. Whereas, International markets are getting MIUI 12 on the 2019 devices. Recently, the company rolled out a stable MIUI 12 build for the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Now, it’s time for the Mi 9 SE and Mi 9 Lite to get the same treatment.

Interestingly enough, the original Xiaomi Mi 9 and Mi 9 Pro were the first smartphones to get MIUI 12 stable update in June in China. In July, the company announced the software update for the Chinese Mi 9 SE. Now, the global, aka European and Russian variants of the latter device is getting the stable update of MIUI 12 branch. Interestingly enough, the excellent mid-range phone Mi 9 Lite is getting the same treatment.

Gizchina News of the week

Both smartphones were originally released with Android Pie in all the markets. They’ve received Android 10 build earlier this year and the new MIUI 12 obviously takes the latest Android version as a base. It’s interesting to point out that this is the second MIUI update coming for the Mi 9 SE which originally came with 2018’s MIUI 10. The Mi 9 Lite, which sells in China as Mi CC9, on other hand, debuted with the MIUI 11 and is getting its first major MIUI update. Both devices should receive a new round of MIUI updates in 2021. Xiaomi is known for keeping the MIUI update for some years. Therefore, we can’t affirm that Android 11 is surely coming for these devices.
