LG K31 goes official with Helio P22 SoC and $150 price tag

LG struggling mobile division is running to overcome the challenges in this competitive market. The South-Korean firm announced this year the LG Velvet 5G. A smartphone that came to replace the existing LG G series and offer users a more affordable choice with mainstream design. Despite the appeal, the phone isn’t really cheap and it’s also below other 2020 flagships due to the use of the Snapdragon 765G. Even though, the company is confident that the Velvet lineup will bring good results. Meanwhile, LG keeps pushing new mid-range phones as they proved to be a good way to attract more costumers for the brand. The company has just announced a new budget device dubbed LG K31.

LG K31 specifications

The LG K31 is more low-end than a mid-range smartphone. It brings a 5.7-inch panel with waterdrop notch housing a 5MP snapper. This display has an HD+ resolution which is not that bad for a low-end phone. The phone has thick bezels and a plastic shell, once again, no surprises. Moving around to the back we have a dual-camera setup comprising a 13MP primary shooter with PDAF and a 5MP ultra-wide snapper with a 120-degree field of view. The rear camera setup is surprisingly good for a device with low-end specifications.

Under the hood, the phone boasts MediaTek’s Helio P22 SoC. This chipset has Eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores operating up to 2.0GHz. The graphical tasks are ensured by a modest PowerVR GE8320 GPU running up to a 650MHz. The LG K31 processor is paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of Internal Storage and this amount can be further expanded via a microSD card. Interestingly enough, the phone ships with Android 10 and LG UX running atop. It may be one of the least 2GB RAM phones to reach the market with a full-fledged version of Android. After all, by the end of the year, Google will require all phones with 2GB of RAM to ship with Android Go.

Getting back to the point, the LG K31 draws power from a 3,000mAh battery cell. In 2020, this battery sits below the standard. To make things worse, it charges over the dated micro USB standard. Despite this lackluster features, the phone comes with a fingerprint scanner and retains a headphone jack. Another interesting feature is a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left-hand side.

For now, the LG K31 is available in the United States for $150. More countries should receive it in the next month.
